How to build a 2 pill linear amplifier for use on 10 & 11 meters.

This video shows you how to build a 2 pill amplifier typically used on CB radios, but can be used on 10 & 11 meters alike.
This amplifier is similar to Fatboy, Davemad & xforce.
I have other amplifier How too video's as well. This amplifier uses 2 2sc2879's.
DISCLAIMER: The use of linear amplifiers on the 11 meter, or CB, is against FCC regulations. I do not condone the use of such a device on Citizens Band, or in any other way that would be deemed illegal.
I am posting this for education purposes. It is perfectly legal to build as long as it is used on the correct band by a licensed Ham operator, or as long as it is operated into a Dummy load and not transmitted Live.

This is from a collection of amplifier plans released by PFS technology and originally called power plate amplifiers. Rick Wilson was the owner and designer of these plans. This was during the late 90's. At some point after that someone had taken a copy of these plans and stripped out whatever PFS logo's they could from the PDF's and photos. Any manuals or photoframes they could not remove these logos, they simply discarded. They then took these stripped down amp plans and started selling them on their own. These plans are still around the Internet in various places. They are missing a lot of plans, and stop at a class c 16 pill amplifier. As well after the 1x4 design, you will be laking the full manual and any further explanations as well as limited photoframes. I have posted the following slide show for EDUCATIONAL purposes. I will be posting information from the “AMPPLANS” that have continued to circulate the Internet. I will not however post any from the full plans since they have not been linked in order to protect Rick Wilson's intellectual property. They only reason I will post these is because they have been widely distributed.

This video does NOT depict on how to build an amplifier. It is simply a slideshow of an amplifier being assembled in stages. Go to BBI for better videos and narration on building and troubleshooting. You should rename this video.....

that is a nice basic class C 2 pill amp. should work from 25 to 30 Mhz OK. to make AB1 bias take choke from input transformer off ground. place 1N5401 or so diode to ground off choke lead band on ground side. place small cap across diode. place 25 ohm 10watt sand resistor on top of input transformer. put 1 lead to choke and other to .12V switched when transmit. ether a other relay or 2 transistor keying circuit I came up with doing a lot of bias mods. also a copper sheld between input and out put transformer will get rid of the splatter . with a little work this can be a very clean amp. I have a scope and spectroscope to look at 2nd and 3rd harmonics. anyways great amp. OK for FM/CW am will work AM, but splatter some. NO SSB all that clipping will pop a pill.

Right, I laughed when someone thought it wouldn't do but 200 .. so many ways and tricks. I've seen more out of a 2 pill than most 4 pills. There's a limit to push it but I personally wouldn't have a 2 pill that didn't do 400 bird at least.

One 2SC2879 Pill or Transistor supposedly is good for 100 watts according to specs. 2 x 100 = 200 watts. I could live with that.

There is no instructional video. This was a package with just pictures on how to build it. I guy made this, and started selling it. A CD with amp plans. Then someone copied the CD and put it on the net. And people stopped buying it. Then the plans disappeared from the net as guys who wanted to make the amps and sell them didn't want the plans out there, so s lot of amp builders worked to keep the plans off the net. So I put them up so people can find them and they are always available

Sorry, Royalty free music is tough to find good. As for narrating, I did not make these. These were created by someone else. I only put them up because they pop up here and there on file share sites which expire. i wanted to get these up for reference. You can mute it if you don't like the music. I will be making more in depth videos explaining everything about the amp as well as how to build it.

I didn't make these plans. I have them up so people can access the plans. I am not sure biasing one of these dirty amps is worth it. But you don't need to Bias it to do side band. You just need to add 1000uf electrolytic capacitor to the relay coil to keep it on for a moment when the audio on SSB drops low.

Specs say the Toshiba 2SC2879 transistor is a 100 watt PEP transistor. So this thing would do 200 watts. I could live with that. html.alldatasheet.com/html-pdf/30139/TOSHIBA/2SC2879/246/1/2SC2879.html

A 2sc2879 is a 120 watt RMS transistor. A pair can peak 300 with a decent drive radio. A 2sc2290 is a 80 watt RMS semiconductor.

False: if you are not a licensed to be able to own and use such a device and you get a visit by the FCC and you have one in your possession, doesn't have to be hooked up, you are in trouble (intent). At the lest they will confiscate the device, at the worst they will confiscate the device and give you a fine that you can fight in court, but in 90% of those cases the defendant is ruled against and now you have court costs on top of the fine.

So, your wrong. Thanks for commenting. First of all, the fcc can't just show up. I mean they can but you don't have to let them in your home. They would need a warrant. In order to get a warrant they need evidence of probable cause to a judge and the judge needs to approve the law. So why are they getting a warrant now? If your not transmitting with it, what reason do they have to get a warrant??? So if I have tech and I have an amp that higher than my license allows, I can have it. And I can use it into a dummy load. As long as I don't transmit outside of my license. Owning an rf amplifier does not denote intent. If you have never broadcast on it or in any way over the limit, where is proof of intent? Last I checked the FCC doesn't waste time going to random people's house looking for amplifiers.

Not worth the hassel. One can find these 2 pill amps all over the place using both Pill type MOSFETs and Transistors. No plans or parts list furnished anyway so why bother. A very usless waste of your time making this low power class C amp. A waste of my time watching it (most of it that is). Desert Fox.
