I just finished up my 6.4 rebuild about 200 miles ago, new maxxforce 7 pistons, had to go .030 over to get the cylinder walls straightened up, feelts a whole lot better! Its at 349k miles and hopefully will go another 350k!
@8020Media6 ай бұрын
W - Nice! Sounds like a beast. It for sure will get 350k more.. Thanks for sharing!
@oscarreyna95813 ай бұрын
What was the cost of all that?
@WillfulMirror83 ай бұрын
@oscarreyna9581 so the pistons I bought on rock auto were about 900 with rings, Misc gaskets and studs and stuff like that were probably another 1000, machine work was 350 and I assembled it all myself and put it back into the truck, in total I spent probably 4k with new rocker arms, oil cooler, fuel cooler, and such

@WillfulMirror8 wow, that's not bad at all. Hearing that these things cost thousands just for only a couple parts. I have a 10, 6.4 Cabela's that has 168k miles. Been trying to figure out a few things to do. I don't want a race truck just more MPG! Lol this 8ish average isn't working. Lol

I can appreciate everything he's saying and recommending. He's definitely not wrong. However, unless you yourself are a diesel mechanic and have all the equipment to do it, you're already $10,000 in it. He's throwing out a couple of prices for just parts. I had similar stuff done to my '08 powerstroke. My friend and I did it. I'm not a diesel mechanic but he is and he's a very good one. He hooked me up big time when it comes to labor, because I was helping him. $12,692 total. Not to mention at 265,000 miles, We tore open the transmission. It was time for a built transmission. That was every bit of $9,000 for the proper transmission. So now it's over $21,000 into the truck. It's a lariat and the interior is pristine. I have kept it incredibly nice. I upgraded the stereo and speakers. I made some other upgrades to the interior lighting system. That was $1,800. I even replaced the center console with a much better one. $1,100. I have officially spent more money on that truck than It's worth on the market. Not to mention the Jensen hitch adapter I have added to it. $1,000. Not to mention the aftermarket shocks and the airbags. $1,200 Also, the 2021 Platinum F-250 wheels I had put on it. I got those for $600 though. Dealership pull offs. The only reason I've done all this to that truck is because I refuse to pay $75,000 to $95,000 for lariat or better on a brand new one. There are some minor body and paint issues. Another friend of mine that owns a paint and body shop will do it for me for $9,000. That's a complete teardown, straightening, sandblast, multi paint layers and multi finish layers. We're going to go with the newest dark red Ford color. Being in my truck is maroon, this color has a maroon look to it so I don't have to change the VIN. By that point I will have over $38,000 invested into this truck that I purchased for $58,000 in 2008. So that's $96,000 total in a truck that's worth about $22,000. And that's the maximum value that nobody's willing to pay for it. Because no matter what I've done to it it is still a 2008 Ford f250 with 270,000 miles on it. A bank might loan out $14,000 for it. And let's not forget other things that just simply wear out. Batteries. Now I choose 1,000 cold cranking Aunt Marine batteries by interstate. Those are over $300 a piece. So that's another $600 about every 10 years or so. The alternator. That went out on me in 2018. $800. The turbo actuator went out on me along with the water pump in 2021. I was $1,700. And of course tires. The tires I need run $1,400 and that's a deal that I get from discount tire here in East Texas. So, let me do the math again. Right at $101,000 total invested in that truck. Yeah! I'm never getting rid of it.

When would things like, intake manifold, exhaust manifold and downpipes need to be addressed? I have a 6.4 with everything you mentioned plus a few extras. Looking for other things I can add that would be worthwhile
@8020Media5 ай бұрын
X - They're definitely good supporting mods to consider. There really isn't a "need" to be addressed, it's more so of a want. Replacing the things you mentioned will make your vehicle more reliable at any stage.
