How much worse does a barn door stop sound transmission between rooms compared to a normal door? Is it possible to see past the edges and into the next room? I have ideas to fit one to my small en suite so I can utilise the space in the room where an ordinary door would swing but obviously dont want a line of sight between rooms 🤣 The door looks great, definitely in the sort of style I'd go for.

Any concerns with wood expansion? We have a barn door to our master bathroom, and either the door wood was bad or the humidity caused it, but the door curled up a bunch. One bottom corner comes 1.5" from the wall while the other bottom corner rubs the wall. I know the plywood won't move, but could the solid boards expand and cause some sort of curl?

Another great video! You can also fill in the hinge mortices by cutting 1/8" thin wood to fit applying glue to them and securing with a pin nailer and then finishing with putty or spackel. That way you don't get the sagging or cracks and you get a hard edge at the reveal. Bondo also works well if you use a piece of wood on the open edge to hold the bondo in. Either way I don't recommend only using putty because of the sagging and the uneven edge so use either wood or bondo instead.
@darrenlesueur4785 Жыл бұрын
that patch she used will Crack its to thick and nothing bonding it to the jamb with the old paint still there. I like the idea of scabbing a piece of wood in . maybe wood bondo would work or sometimes I take fine saw dust and mix it with wood glue and make a patch

Aloha, April. Wow, that panel saw is amazing! (I’ve never seen one.) May I ask you a saw-related question please? I am on the verge of buying my first mitre saw ever. Was gonna purchase a 12” mitre (Dewalt), but hesitating … should I $pend the extra money and get a SLIDING 12” mitre saw instead? I am not building a house or anything, but am doing maintenance/improvements on farmhouse and workshop (e.g. building interior walls for secure tool lock up), as well as plans to build a new chicken coop and goat enclosure, etc. Your thoughts on pros & cons? Many thanks!
@readyplayer23 жыл бұрын
Not April obviously but I’d say one consideration for you may be weight if you don’t have a permanent location you can leave it set up. I got a large DeWalt compound sliding mitre saw and I love the capability but the thing is a beast to haul off a shelf and set up when I use it occasionally. If you have a workshop where you can leave it set up, this probably isn’t an issue for you.

Hi, April loved the video but if I had been making it, I would have put a very small bevel on the wood to emphasize the pattern on the outside of the door. Also you wen t over the front of the door when you were painting the back, that would have driven me mad until I sorted it out. Seeing the paint on the back if you get tired of the wood look you could reverse the door and have a different look by just moving the rollers on to the other side

@@2H80vids yep, but there's something that you can place on the wall, i don't know the name but it can be done... One little support really close to the opening of the door, but for that the door must be a little wider too so it closes the passage but still stays within that support..

This is unlikely to stay flat for very long, both the methods you used were a decent approach but should have done the same for both sides i.e two sheets of 1/2 ply with the score cuts on the cnc or the sheet of ply clad on both sides. You have to balance your sheet goods when laminating things to them.
