First Rule dont cut down every tree where you plan on building, yes you will have to run further away to collect wood but its worth it , i see so many village builds with zero natural trees

Me and my friend built our village next to the pathway on the eastern edge of that lake. Between the lake and the marsh. Beautiful location, mine nearby, plenty flat land, trees, rocks etc Only issue is the area is heavily populated by wolves and bears. Makes for an interesting headset convo when you parkour onto buildings to escape bear attacks😅😂

Lake is the way to go I built a wall around the top of the marsh and utilize that are for house and farming . You got the clay pits and lake.

I love the idea of this game but every time I think I find a cool place to build I place down my house and then go to add another building and get killed by a bear, boar or wolf. I have repeatedly managed to get myself killed within 2 days of starting. I've been trying to find a map of oxbow that will help me find a safe spot and none of them seem to work.

This is a survival game so this is part of the challenge. If you're finding it too difficult you can make it easier in the game settings but there are plenty of spots that aren't near bear, boar or wolf spots, too many to list, so just keep persevering, you will get there I'm sure.

I don’t know if it’s different on PC, but I play on PS5 and unless the ground is completely flat, any furniture or decorations I place are wonky or it just won’t allow me to place anything 😢

How do you get a lot of resources to immediately start building or are the custom settings really the only way to speed things up?

You can use custom settings yes but I have 2 save files, one for Valley and Oxbow where I've built a successful town, unlocked everything and then basically demolished the town and evicted the villagers and saved it as something like 'valleystart' 'oxbowstart' so now if I ever just want to build without unlocking everything I load one of those up and I have everything I need.

Above ostoya where that small marsh is and the stream is some beautiful flat hills almost rolling hills but different levels in the mountain, i keep debating about moving my entire village there😂
