Dude, thank you so much for these vids, just got my m50 motor for my first drift build. Rebuilding the whole motor, this helps so much!!

Note: If you want to build a budget turbo stroker motor using the M54B30 crank, and you're like me with an M50B25 non VANOS thinking "Oh, i'll just use the THICK BOY non VANOS rods with the 3 liter crank", then think again. You cannot run them as they hit the bottom of the bores with the longer stroke crank. It almost has a 1.5cm longer stroke. Ask me how i know... I guess you could start cutting. It doesn't look like too much needs to be cut away. Definetly doable, i just got aftermarket rods instead. Didn't wanna deal with the headache.
@VasKatsaras Жыл бұрын
Yeah I would assume it's from the longer stroke. No issue with the 2.8

Did you have to gap your piston rings
@placeholdername3206 Жыл бұрын
@@drayescobar9469 If you have crank and pistons/rods out anyway you'd be stupid not to get new rings and gap them for the best results. If you're leaving the bottom end untouched then just send it. A lot of people do, but with varying degrees of success.

Yes I did. As I'm planning on running pump fuel I have gone quite wide. 18thou gap

so it is possible to put m50 nv rods to m52 crank with m52 pistons?...
@VasKatsaras Жыл бұрын
Yes. You can put those rods in an m52 b28 or m52b30 stroker As they are 130mm

hey vas ik this is a old video but could i use this guide for a s50? i got one in parts but idk where to start assembling it, plan on slapping on a small snail
@VasKatsaras2 жыл бұрын
I feel almost all engines from 92-2005 are pretty much the same, that's why all the parts are interchangeable. Main difference with the S50 is the head design is completely different.

@@VasKatsarasso can you throw a s50 head on a m50 iron block?
@ioijiopjkiopjkp2 жыл бұрын
Another option for head sealing is o-ringing the block, then you can run a stock composite head gasket and it will hold to over 1k hp. Pretty handy if you're pulling the head regularly because the stock head gaskets are cheap.

Disadvantage is if something goes wrong with the tune up etc or detonation u will take the head out just use stock OEM gasket with arps it works great u rather have the head gasket go out then destroying the head the gasket is acting as a fuse basically the o ring system or fire ring system is basically making the head one with the block and it puts alot of stress on the center off the head when its clamped down this system is good for drag racing only but for a reliable build that can take punishment stock gasket is best on the bmw m50 and other models of bmw engines in my opinion

@@prienchutterpaul6638 it makes sense you always want to have a weak point somewhere. For me i rather my driveshaft break than my trans or diff going out it's easier to replace a driveshaft than a transmission that way you get the car going the same day within an hour of it breaking. In the engine id rather replace a gasket than the head so it makes sense to use OEM plus FCP euro will just give you a new one

Question: How are you using 135mm m50 rods in a 2.8 liter which originally comes with 140mm rods?
@VasKatsaras2 жыл бұрын
The M50NV Rods are 135mm same as the M52B28. The M50TU rods are 140mm. It took a while to measure everything up but it all works. Thank you for your question. Its something i should have addresses in the video.
