Your the man stu I watch your videos every morning before going to work. I am a bricklayer in the states. We just started a hotel just got done building our brick ledges. Now we're going to wrap the building with two courses of modular brick then our flashing.

Watched a few of the films and I'm impressed? I'm a bricky myself, I've done it on and off for thirty two years, I always think you can learn something new every time you watch a good bricky, music's a bit naff, but thanks for the invaluable information and keep up the good work Stu.

Thanks for the video Stu. I am not a brickie, more a chippie. I learned by chance on a video the other day what English garden wall bond is. I was also curious what Flemish bond was so thanks again for showing us what it is. I think the extra work is justified by the lovely decorative appearance of the brickwork.

Great video Stu. My only criticism would be that your music track is way too loud compared to your voice track. I tend to watch your vids when the rest of the family are asleep as they have no interest in bricky work, I find myself constantly adjusting the volume so I don't annoy anyone, but then you speak and I can't hear what you said. Otherwise great job, keep 'em coming.

Gonna be honest here mate im only 21 qualified bricky also, when i first started watching your vids a month or so ago i judged a book by its cover and thought very amateurish with some of the stuff you do! Was i wrong!!! Absoloutley amazed by the stuff you do and love the videos! Amazing bricky with great tips and started using your methods in my own stuff!! Brought me on leaps and bounds please keep up the great work!!!

Lovely Stu. That's a very pretty bond indeed! So it's made up of whole bricks, halves and quarters?? (I'm now looking around at brickwork - there's some very complicated and wonderful craftsmanship out there, especially in the older buildings). Thanks!

Useful vid as aways. I'm about to start building a low block garden wall (to be rendered) but having problems getting the mortar to stick. Seems to dry without bonding to the blocks. I'm using 4 to 1 builders sand to cement that has built in plasticiser. I'm mixing it to a consistency of peanut butter and it sticks to the trowel upside down. I made sure the blocks were dust free.
@fin17407 жыл бұрын
TK42138 - wet em! The blocks are sucking the water from the mix, and it won't hold to anything..... STU, ....I learned that from you...... I don't want to steal the show, just showing you that I pay attention, in class.......

Great channel, brilliant edits on your vids. You should do an 8" wall to show the true purpose of the headers in a flemish bond, could also show the corner layout geometry for an 8 or 12" solid wall construction. More work, but I've always felt Flemish bond is the most elegant, both structurally and aesthetically, and doesn't rely on metal or mechanical ties. Also looks dead georgeous with glazed headers, hand rubbed jambs and arches.

This may be a stupid obvious question but the course without the closer has 4 perp joints and the course with the closer has 6 perp joints. So presumably on the course with the closer my perps need to be smaller? Or do I make my perps on the other course bigger?

I would call this a fake Flemish bond. A Flemish bond wall has to have 2 wythes so that the headers actually bond the 2 wythes together.
