In this video I show how I built a very simple, cheap and strong workbench out of 38x63mm (2x3"), 38x89mm (2x4") and 18mm (3/4") Plywood. FREE plans can be found here: drive.google.com/file/d/0B1Kl...

Actually, the best of the dozen vids I watched in order to make a bench. Simple, clear, concise….. EDIT: There are so many good videos out there that assume a level of skill and experience I and others do not have. This one could be called “woodworking for dummies,” and those of us so new to it should assume we know nothing. In Japanese, they call that mind set Junanshin - じゅなんしん - “the beginners mind” and this vid is suitable for us folk.

A few other subjects range from the various kinds of wood along with their distinct levels of difficulty when it comes to managing them. If you are still a beginner in wood working, then you will find this book very beneficial.

I want to say 'thank you' for making the plans for this great workbench available to everyone for free. I think you are a good man. You don't get much for free these days! Thanks for that too. :-)

I have just put up a new shed and need a workbench. I've been looking at bench builds on KZbin and picked yours as the one to attempt. A great workbench for us hobbyist. Roubos are very pretty and all that but they are overkill and can be prohibitively expensive once you get the Moxon and leg vice etc. for someone at my level. My one little difference would be drill some holes for dogs and small vice that also has dog holes to hold your work in place. It’s too thin to use a holdfast properly but you can get cheap plastic ones you can screw in. I use mine all the time for planing, chiselling and gluing as somethings are dimensionally too big for the voice itself. Great video that will save a lot of people a lot of money.

Very nice build, and I love the idea of free PDF plans on certain projects and not Sketch Up as some woodworkers do, because i don't use that. I have been through all your videos now, and i like the Simplicity of the videos, and how easy you put together your parts using Pocket Screws. I have the same jig as you, and I also have the HD Version mainly to use for 4x2 wood, a much stronger and bigger screw. Anyway like i said before i like your Channel and i have now Subscribed, so keep up them great videos and the odd PDF Plan. Barry (ENG)

I found your video very interesting, the only problem I found was the amount of timber you would need, I take it I would have to add more timber length as I would like a work bench higher than normal so that I don’t have to bend over to work, but average lengths would help

I must be stupid but I dont see any plans what so ever anywhere attached to this video Sir. Im going to just assume and try to come up with my own dimensions in feet and inches so I can build one of my own hahaha. Love the concept of this one though. I think I may substitute the feet with Small Wheels so I can move it easily if need be. I like the Kreg pocket hole jig idea its more work and a longer process but much more studier in the long run so worth the time. Thanks for posting this video this is what I needed to lite the fire under my roody pooh to get busy building mine haha

Quality workbench, have you thought about asking DeWalt to sponsor your channel? Looks like you've got most of their catalogue after all!
@WheresMyPencilUK7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alexander Bolingbroke it's a simple workbench but very sturdy. I'd love to be sponsored by DeWalt but I think they favour the professional tradesmen which I'm not! I'm a big fan of their tools. I have quite a few as you say as bought a few when renovating my house and it seems to have snowballed! I'm hoping that them being professional quality will mean they last me a long time.

I am a 'castor-holic', so.........., But I would leave an overhang for clamping on ALL edges.
@UralScott4 жыл бұрын
How much overhang? How would you do it- just an oversized 3/4" plywood top to start with? Or would you bolt and glue a hardwood 2x2 around those two end edges, bolted to the 2x3 frame?
@Hasenherz_3 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit too late, but your video just showed up on my starting page. There's one thing I'm concerned about at 6:26. The sawdust covers your fan heater and can catch fire once you use it. Always keep such things clean and free from any sawdust. Anyway, good work on your workbench, I'm going to build one in spring attached to the housewall, that can be hinged or flipped down for use. Sadly I haven't got a garage and the shed is already full of stuff :/
@WheresMyPencilUK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your concern it’s actually a dehumidifier as my garage is quite damp. To be fair the sawdust probably doesn’t do it much good! Good luck with the build. 👍🏼

Great video and excellent design. So you dont need any glue on top of the bolts ?
@ksp12787 жыл бұрын
You should have done the Matthias jump test on it! looks very sturdy. I am curious why you built it though. was the fold down workbench proving insufficient? obviously space is at a premium in your workshop so I wasn't sure if you can fit both?
@WheresMyPencilUK7 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit heavier than Matthais but I'm sure it can cope! I've done away with the fold down as have put a large steel peg board on the wall and wanted storage space underneath. The new workbench is actually 15cm shallower so gives a bit more room. Bit of a trade off but this workbench will form the basis for a mitre saw station that will hopefully be the next video. The plans are done, just waiting for some T-track.
@Steviebrit6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your video's mate, nice job. Could I ask you what software you use to set out your plans and cut lists? I copied your bench design and I've managed to tidy my garage up no end. Going to add another in the very near future so thanks for the tips.

Subbed, great vid. Where do you recommend buying timber from?
@WheresMyPencilUK7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Adam I got the timber used for this from a combination of Homebase (CLS) and B&Q (plywood). Homebase sell the CLS for £1.95 a 2.4m length which is really good value. I bought the plywood from B&Q as my local store has a machine that can cut it to dimensions I specified which saves me a job and also I can't fit 8ft x 4ft sheets in my car!

Great looking nerat bench, which i believe can be modified? but, look at the legs in the finished vid they do not touch the ground? looks like its being held up by the side supports only? When I get around to it I must do this easy looking bench but must look into the leg measures!

Where can you now fit the clamp 7" by 7 " ? ? The clamp Im hoping to use is a 7inch base by 7" which is fixed to the underside of the table but now it would compromise the lovely frame I made? Attaching an additional 7" of overhang made of plywood to attach the clamp would be a bit flappy having to support its own weight and the weight of the material being worked on and held by the clamp.
@7hill2142 жыл бұрын
Hello. Nice work easy and usefull. But in second 57 at first how you clamp two timber for screwing? It is only with that plier or any additional tools?
@phpguru18964 жыл бұрын
I like the fact it's cheap and sturdy but I wonder how square it is and more importantly how flat the top is. If there was any twist in the top frame that's going to get transferred to the top and it's hard to build things square if your workbench is not flat.
@WheresMyPencilUK4 жыл бұрын
Not had any noticeable twist. The cross braces must have helped.

Good quality bench without the overkill of some of the other designs ive seen. What are the fixings called that you used for the adjustable legs? I cant seem to be able to find them.
