Concept wise I did the same. Only I made my "tank" wrap around the whole cargo rack. 7 gallons hanging off the rack on one side is a lotta weight (50 lbs). I kept a oil filter 🔧 handy because the cap will get tough to open over time.

I've thought about building one. Does the pressure drop fast? Probably depends on amount of water in it? More air volume the longer it last?

Yes the pressure will drop quickly if you completely fill it so I’ve learned to not fill it all the way so there is more pressurized air. So yes you are correct sir :)

Maybe between the valve and the nipple but other then that none was needed.
