Future. Stack the roofing, measure the center of the board, pre drill the screw holes, then when you get on top you know where ever screw goes, no mistakes. It will look a lot better cause the rows will be straight. If you do it once you'll never go back.

Nice build. How many birds are you planning on? Our coop was 16x16 with 6x16 sectioned off for feed storage. Our run area was 16x20. We would bring in 50 fryers plus 25 layers per year. We also had other pens for ducks, geese, ducks you name it the wife would bring it in to see if it worked. Thank God I worked in the trades and helped by others. Came over from Bobblehead. Thank you for helping Jeff.

You put the perlins on top of the 2x6's to screw the tin to. That raised it 3/4". How did you make your bird blocks?

I used 2x6 for bird blocks and ran the hardware cloth all the way up to the metal.

@@hickoryridgehomestead9177 Just wondering because it looked like you used 2x6's for the rafters and plus 3/4" on top of that. So a 2x6 would be 3/4" to narrow to work

Would linoleum on the floor of the nesting box make clean out easier ?
@hickoryridgehomestead91775 жыл бұрын
it would probably be a little easier. The bedding is about 4 inches deep so it will take a while before it needs to be changed and then I can just use a rake to pull it out and sweep the rest. If its a lot of trouble the first time I change it I will put down linoleum . Thanks for the tip!!

I'm not a fan of these short coop's, I feel a walk in coop with a large door is much better. They are easier to clean and much easier to maintain the roosting bars. Chickens poop on everything and it needs to be scaped off and sanitized. Hard to do in a a coop with four foot walls. Other than that ,man you build a bullet proof coop and run.
@randybeard60404 жыл бұрын
Great Video but I would have built a Bottom Trap door for Poop, pull the Pin and let her Fall...
@hickoryridgehomestead91774 жыл бұрын
It would have fallen into the run and I would have to crawl under to clean it out. The way it is now I just drag it into the bucket of the tractor. I can clean it out and refill it in about 5 minutes. Your way would work great if I didn’t have the run going under the hen house
@rj-yj8dp5 жыл бұрын
Nice job, but you are going to have to crawl in s h i t to get inside. Would have been better to build a door from the pen side, and at the bottom of the door make the chicken door.
@hickoryridgehomestead91775 жыл бұрын
Unless there is a snake or something in there I should never have to get inside. The doors on the outside swing open and can use a garden rake for easy clean out of the bedding material. There is also a full size walk though door in the run.
