Paul's Hardware Hey paul quick question should I buy another gtx 660 msi oc gaming adition and sli or should I just get a new graphics card im wondering because I want to play the newer titles with a little more smoothness btw I find the gtx 660 msi twin frozer gaming edition is pretty good. your thoughts? I hope you reply...im a big fan.
@Supermanohman
@Supermanohman 10 жыл бұрын
Theorcman2008 I'm not Paul but I think Paul would agree with me on this. A good single card is usually better than older cards in SLI (or crossfire). If you can sell your card for like $70 then use that money and put it towards a GTX 770. EDIT: Maybe in certain circumstances 2 SLI cards will perform better than a new good card, but the hassle of messing with SLI drivers, having twice as many fans in your case spinning up, having to deal with certain motherboards that throttle the bandwidth of the PCIe when 2 cards are used, and the fact that some games don't play well with SLI is enough for me to just stick with a single card.

BEST build video I have ever watched! There were two minor technical errors (although they did not affect your build): Never use a plugged in PSU to ground yourself on unless everything that you are trying to protect from ESD is also grounded to it. Also, when using extension cables, use them when you do the test fire prior to putting everything in the case.

Thanks for including the testing steps around the 9 minute mark. You saved my build. I had every thing together and nothing was powering up. Had actually printed out RMA documents for my PSU. And ripped out all power supply cables. I have previously see another video you made that included testing durring the build. Didn't find it but found this one. Put back the 24 pin and 8 pin CPU power and .... everything powered up. Guess there was a loose cable previously. Have every thing connected now and still works.

Don't know why, but when I opened KZbin, this one popped up. A very enjoyable trip into hardware history. Ah I remember that era! 😀 Thanks Paul. Highlights of my build from November 2012: - ASUS Maximus V GENE Z77 - Intel Core i7 3770K s1155 - SilverStone Fortress SST-FT02B The computer provided fine service for over 8 years. I went straight from the 3770K to my 5950X. 👍

This how to vid will certainly be going into my Favorites category! Loved the simplicity of the instructions and the build footage it's self, it was very easy to understand unlike some of the how to PC building videos I have watched and or used in the past. Thanks for taking the time to make this Paul,it helps new enthusiasts like myself from damaging or messing up the expensive components it takes months maybe even years to save up for when we do finally start building our rigs! Cheers from Kentucky (LoL)

Hi paul congradulations on your new show. I wanted to take the time today, and thank you for all the videos through the years. I read them all, and applied most of what I learned from your videos to build desktop, and laptop. You were right it was easier than I thought, and has run very smooth through the learning process. My old desktop died, and I went with a ga-f2a88xm-d3h- A10-7890k/ due to budgeting issues. This is up, and running smoothly. In about a week I will be installing R7-250 gpu to finally finish the build. I will not lie the computer I want to build is an Intel Asus Z170-maximus hero alpha with Intel i7-6700k Corsair 100h gtx/ with 980 ti graphic card / 4 x 8gb= 32 with 1000 watt PS for future upgrade, and a nice case. This is my ultimate Goal, and I will be so happy the day these parts arrive at my door? Thanks again hawkinsdarkmatter396

Paul's Hardware Well done build tutorial. It is great to see practical and experienced advice given in tutorials. Cable management can be a huge PTA. I did a build a while back in a case where there was no choice but to run nearly every cable in the system through a small area near the upper front corner of the motherboard which resulted in a cable bundle about 3 inch by 1.5 inch zip tied hideous mass. Transverse drive cages are a must and yet some inexpensive cases don't accommodate them. BTW it would be awesome if some online reseller would begin listing cases that had transverse mounted HDD cages.

I've seen this video like 5 times now in preparation for building my PC, but around 11:40 or so you are talking about plugging in the System Fans (vs the CPU fans) -- here, you say the Sys Fans use a 4 pin header but in reality only the CPU fan has 4 pins. That's how you tell them apart. Both are equally important for cooling but do very different things, so it's good to realize the difference.

The anti-static bag is NOT conductive, it has been tested with a multimeter and it gets infinite resistance. The reason that most people say not to build on the bag is that there is a warning on the bag that says the bag will not provide protection after the board is removed, because the bag works like a Faraday cage.

It should be noted that many cpu coolers require a backplate to install infarct i would go as far to say that for the 1150 socket most if not all do. If this is the case you'll want to install that before you mount your mobo.
