Aside from the rivets wanting to lean over when I pounded them down, the only other challenge I had was with the big gaps between the sheet metal after the rivots were installed. It would be nice if there were a couple more rivets on this seam. I had to pour the solder into the gap from outside and inside, but it is sealed now. I had fun building this. Went together perfectly. Tip: I used Barkeeper's Friend to clean the copper. It has some abrasives in it plus some magic chemical. Worked great!

Myownspirit- Yeah, the gaps are sometimes smaller or larger depending on how the rivets go in. The less you pound on them, the smaller the gaps are. A trick I use (not mentioned in the video) is to heat the gaps with a torch and lightly hammer against a mace. The gaps generally close right up. Also, typically use Tarnex, but seriously just bought barkeepers friend, at your suggestion, yesterday. I noticed it in the household cleaning section at the grocery and figured i'd give it a try.

Im a sheet metal worker by trade and youd be surprised how forgiving copper can be doesnt have to be perfect if u have a compass from a drafting set use it to draw a pefect circle of what ever size u want and just keep hand forming the copper and checking it on the pattern you drew till its shaped the way you like

wow never seen so many ignorant folks..sheets are sheets, you gotta make the tabs in it. for securing the bottom to still...but you can make your own tabs just his are nice even and premade...but you could make 4 tabs for securing..then solder the rest up...

Yall skipped the part making the rivit holes AND part 1 was only the tools, yall started part 2 with copper sheets with the teeth on the ends, howd yall do THAT? That looks like the hardest part right there, u need a special tool for that ? Why do u even need them?

I've seen old-timers make their own copper rivet's because the copper smashes easier and it just looks better to and it keeps the chance of contamination from other metals, remember the best stills in the past were ALL COPPER no steel at all. But if you've ever had to make your own copper rivet's you will know why people opt out for steel instead, it's very time consuming and time is money.

Copper roofing nails are a great substitute! They already have a flat head one the one side just be sure to cut them so 1 and a half the diameter of the nail is protruding past the copper u wish to river to form a propper sized head

What gauge copper sheet do you use?
@scottp653311 жыл бұрын
where did the copper sheet come from and what are its dimensions?!
It all depends on size of still you want for say if u wanted a 10inch still you would use a formula to find out how tall it needs to be like pie x radius square (half the diamiter) will give you the surface area of ten inches and we know 277 cubed inches is one us gallon so roughly 18inches all at 10 inches around is 5 gallons then u add ur allowances for your seams
