“Recent singles of 2020 END OF ME, PAINT THE AIR, STEREO, CMB have been a collaboration with pop producer Ben Flanders. We added specific ingredients of Pop production with REAL acoustic guitar, hits, taps - vocal trills and voicing. These were all incorporated INTO the beat to give a nice earthy presence, and we even added Kazoo (on Better) just because.. I really feel like we just straight up need more kazoo in our lives!”
Carl Wockner was named the first and ONLY Australian artist to ever win Top Honors at the International Acoustic Music Award’s 2015 (USA), along with top of the AAA category for the release of his album Crayon Days with producer Michael Flanders in Nashville TN. Wockner has skipped up the charts with his first two single releases receiving high rotation to national radio in both Australia and USA which landed the title track into the International Billboard Charts. The same album has received a 2016 IMA (Independent Music Awards) Finalist nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album. It was following this recent success that Wockner relocated his family to Nashville TN, USA as a strategic move for his evolving career.
Sept 2019, Carl was featured for an entire episode of “Backstage Marquee” a syndicate show aired across the USA featuring original artists set to be ‘the next big thing.’
Sept 2018 Wockner performed LIVE on National USA Television. The show HLN on the CNN Network for the segment “The Weekend Express,” featured Carl’s original songwriting and performance as a showcase taste of Nashville / Music City.
His rare “Live Looping” style solo performance matched only with his signature vocals and unique acoustic guitar work renders Carl in a league of his own. The live shows have been recognized throughout Australia and USA with multiple headliner performances at festivals and touring, and Wockner is now rumoured as one of the busiest musicians in Nashville, TN - aka “Music City.”
Since landing in Nashville, Wockner has released two EP’s including a Christmas release with the favoured “Santa Selfie.” Currently his latest single “Better” is noted as the best studio representation of his signature live performance style.
There’s something about Carl Wockner’s music that simply exudes peace. The peace you feel when you’re humming along to a nostalgic track, or the peace you feel when you just know everything’s going to be ok. However you connect with Carl’s music, you would agree this he is definitely onto something.
Carl’s first EP, the self-produced, recorded, mixed (all in his lounge room) Acoustic…ness, was released in 2011 to an overwhelmingly positive response. If one decides to make their own cables, shielded cable is the way to go, and soldered yes yes yes. If unsure of learning soldering skills, then practice soldering to gain self confidence, it's easy.

one detail that can help some: Try to have good separation of power cables and sound signal cables, cross if needed but try not to run them close side by side. It can create some noise for sure.

Yes for sure. Especially on higher gain electric rigs. Acoustic is usually pretty fine when you’re sending a balanced signal.

Thanks mate, the keys sound is more organy but all I use is a chorus effect, just a stock standard one🤙🏼 hope that helps

You should make and sell those pedal boosters. The problem, as your setup indicates, with the HRL is that the onboard effects are awful AND unwieldy. But I only need one: the OC-3. If I had that running on batteries it'd be awesome. Love the setup videos!

Hey Carl 👋 Had the HeadRush ever since it came out and done many videos with it. Quick question about the Top, how do you access the volume knobs for input/output or do you just set them and then leave them. I find I have to adjust the master gig to gig depending on the venue or are you just leaving that to a mixer / PA to boost the sound? I tie wrap everything as I HATE Velcro so much so don’t know how I’d feel about it. Great video and great that you are back in force on KZbin. Been following you for years! Peace.

Enjoyed your pedalboard build video. Just curious if you ever run into issues with velcro coming off of the bottom of your pedals.

Thanks mate. no issues. I use the Dual-lock velcro. WAAY better than standard. if its an old pedal and old velcro, Ill either use new stuff - or run some cheap super glue between the pedal and velcro. This comes off pretty easy if you ever need to sell, or remove the velcro.

Hey Carl, big fan of your music and your OCD! Thanks for putting this together. Super inspiring! What's your thoughts on Headrush loop vs RC-300? And how are the fx in the headrush loop station? Are you sticking with your other effect pedals cuz they sound better or because it's hard to switch effects on/off on headrush while arranging loops?

Thanks mate. Well they’re different! But honestly I prefer the simplicity of the RC300, but the only reason I went with the headrush is for the wav file output, and transparent output signal. This is a very minimal but necessary upgrade for my shows in the future. Otherwise I’d stick with the boss. Honesty if I wasn’t gonna play shows over 500-1000 people I wouldn’t have changed my rig. And yes not a fan of the Fx on the HR.

Hey Carl, I'm a headrush looper too and I want to power my board with something like the Strymon Ojai. Does your headrush run off the 18v output from the Strymon or are you running a separate power cable for the looper? Love and support from Australia!

Hey mate, the headrush needs a 19v power adapter. To my knowledge there aren’t any pedal power bricks that supply that option so you need to use a separate one:(

Thanks mate:) the Aeros, RC505 / 500 etc... all only have 1 x stereo output. The HRLB I can get 4 mono + 1 stereo (headphone out). MAJOR difference for me. also, the Aeros only has an instrument in. I need 2 stereo inputs and a mono mic input. Also, for the other options, the footprint is too small, so I would need to add a midi controller (which is fine) but the headrush just had everything I wanted personally so I went with that.

Reluctantly but mostly for additional outputs, wav file format and transparent tone without limiting compression.

@@carlwockner ok I see , I had a look on the internet and that's not really what I'm looking for! where I'm getting to is , I have a few pedals which are , a tuner , reverb , delay etc etc plus a RC 300 pedalboard So I wanna be able to power my looper board and take it on to the streets to perform without having to worry about where to get the power for my pedalboard! I hope that makes sense haha Cheers

@@prasannakarki7404 I don’t use a battery power but it all depends on the size of the brick. I use a Strymon Ojai for all my pedals except the headrush looper

Nice video Carl! I'm just catching up with some of your newer videos, your rig has advanced since 2019! Quick question, I notice that you don't use a compressor pedal anymore. Any particular reason for that? Do you think it's unnecessary? I'm looking for a new compressor pedal, mine has died. I do a lot of fingerpicking stuff and I always assumed a compressor was a necessity for that. What do you think?

I never really used 1 for compression. It was only for a little volume boost. I’ve used just a clean boost (the TC spark) for the past 4 years or so. And when I had the Ebs comp i only used a very small amount of compression.

Why you continue using boss pedals like tuner and octaver if headrush has already had these features? And what are the other three pedals (on the left side) you use with headrush?

I like the boss tuner and I need to sometimes mute prior to the looper. The octave I adjust a lot during a show and same with the others.
