Add 2 solid ply wood 1/4 in thick with hinges for the back ply wood to open for back rest while the other covers the seating for a stronger seating area then add wheels to all legs. Make your own mattress or get a thick toper. When you open the bed to twin or king you can fold down the plywood after you slide the other out. I seen these they run from $350+ they can have drawers or trundles under the extended end. Thank You for the Blessing I couldn't afford it, but now I can build and I'm good at that.

This build is somewhat similar to the IKEA Hemnes daybed. There are online video guides on how to assemble it. The user manual with dimensions, parts list, assembly instructions is also online. IKEA does offer some of the assembly hardware as a separate purchase. I just dismantled my king waterbed but have kept the two 3-drawer units that supported the mattress. I'm considering using one or stack both of those drawer units for the trundle component of a daybed. I like that the Hemnes has vertical panels on 3 sides. I'm thinking I could use 30x80 hollow core interior doors instead, one for the backrest, another cut in half for either end. Since hollow doors aren't suitable for bearing any load, I plan to build a sturdy frame from 2x lumber as a "sleeve" for the trundle. The doors will then attach to the sturdy sleeve.

Yes! Thank you for this tutorial! My mom owns the ikea version of this bed, and I've always loved it. 🥰 I don't necessarily have a small bedroom, at least for an older home, but it also isn't "big" by any stretch of the imagination. My previous [California king sized] bed used to take up most of the floor space in my room. Even though I loved it, I decided to downsize to something smaller about a year and a half ago. This bed looks fairly easy to build and would make a great compromise between floor space and a bigger bed.

This is the simplest build and one I've been looking for. I'll build one for my fifth wheel. The only change I'd make in mine is the two outside slats would be pull outs, not screwed down. I think that would stop the falling in. Your build allows oodles of storage space underneath- fantastic. Mine will be built of reclaimed pallet wood (it's what I can afford). Thank you again.

Nice job. The section or part that pulls out "stands" on two front legs that don't have a cross piece like the other part of the bed. Why wouldn't you add a cross piece that would keep those two legs stable when it is pulled out? Couldn't see if that cross piece would sit on the floor but if not, maybe it being not quite as wide across the front of the bed would be okay or it could just go up off the floor an inch or so. To have a cross piece acting as another stabilizer would keep the bed from being too wonky on the pull-out action. You can take bees wax or a bar of soap & rub it along those wood slats which would make the pull-out action a bit easier too (in case the wood swells with the weather or you can always give it a spray paint shower). Thanks you two for a great video & reminding us to measure twice & cut once (which we saw when we realized how careful you were about your measurements).
@red-eyedmagister15953 жыл бұрын
yes, i think a cross piece would be necessary.
