Step-by-step process for building the DIY Recording Equipment Ferrite DI, or any passive DI for that matter. Full kits for the Ferrite DI are available via my store: www.diyrecordingequipment.com/...
If kits are sold out, it's because I'm waiting for a shipment from Cinemag. They'll be in stock soon!

The correct answer is: Both. All three are shield wires that must be grounded to the chassis. Great question--can't believe I forgot to include this in the video!

Hi, thanks for your video. Could I ask you a question? I have an old small DJ mixer with an unbalanced input microphne 1/4 inch jack (TS) and I want to replace it by an XLR female balanced. Can you tell me how do I balance the mic input XLR shifting the pin 3 phase and add it to pin 2 and cancel the noise in long cables? Is there any way to do this in a simply way because the small space inside the mixer chassis? Thank you and please excuse my english.

DIY RECORDING, Is the DI transformer made out of Ferrite? and is the output impedance low or high impedance? because it won't work well with guitar pedals like the fuzz face that wants to see High impedance input into the fuzz face

So..... what do you do with the ring terminals? That was left out of the video

He mentioned it briefly, but you're right, he didn't show it. They get screwed to the little hole in the lid, in order to ground them.

Do the black and white wires (with their ring terminal screw to the bottom of the enclosure? Or does the green/blue wire from the switch screw to the bottom of the enclosure? Or do both of them screw to the bottom of the enclosure?

Yeah the one crucial thing missing from this video is what to do with the ring terminals

Is this the same thing as like a line-out box for a guitar amp?
@EdMuse1122
@EdMuse1122 6 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's right. It provides a balanced, line-level signal for plugging directly into a mixing board or recording console, via an XLR cable. The "through" jack also provides an unbalanced, instrument level signal for plugging into an amp.

Hi Jonny, usually DI transformers are specifically specified as such but in general you are looking for at 12:1 ratio, mu-metal shielding, and faraday shields on the windings.

I wonder if this guy is still selling these. I'm not sure what the prices on this stuff were like in 2012, but you can buy everything except the transformer for less than $20 on Digikey and they're not even usually the best place to get things like audio connectors. It's possible that the transformer is ridiculously expensive, but if that's the case it just means that passive isn't the way to go. You can get a whole lot of analog silicon for $50. Vacuum tubes aren't even out of the question if you're so inclined and you're willing to drop that kind of money on a one off build of something you could just buy for equal or less money (and get a refund for if it doesn't work).

100 bucks? Maybe cool as a build project, but not a money saving solution. Considering the cost of this project, you can buy a brand new, high quality Radial DI Pro box for the same price, and cheaper DI-boxes for fraction of the cost.

***** I agree, it looks like a great fun project, but for 50-100 you can get a premade DI box

+ahjteam In the the Radial DI Pro you won't be getting a high end transformer like the Cinemag that comes in this set up. (Which is ~$70 from the manufacture). If you come up to ~160 in the used market you can pick up a Radial JDI which does come with a nice Jenson transformer. Even though this kit isn't available, the parts list and schematic are still a no brainer for anyone looking for a boutique DI box at around ~$100.

+Aaron Profitt Maybe a silly question , but with Guitar effects pedals , would it not be better to use rack mount gear , whats the advantage of buying pedals at 50-100 bucks each instead of rack gear ?
@TheOriginalMack
@TheOriginalMack 8 жыл бұрын
+charlie brownau As someone who's never really invested anything into rack mounted gear, I'm probably not a great person to ask. But, as someone with a lot of pedals, I can say that it is nice to be able to piece together your sound with small investments. And, as just a weekend guitar player, it's nice to keep things mobile and right in front of you.

@@charliebrownau Portability. And a good DI is essential to that. It's not impossible with current technology to construct a rig that will last the entirety of a music career, no matter how large or successful, that fits into a space no larger than a suitcase.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm going to make the bold assumption that you're somewhere in Europe or the U.K. He pronounces it that way because that's how it's pronounced in American English. Although in other countries, I do realize that the "L" is pronounced, in the U.S. it is not.
