How to build a DIY watercolour palette

My palette is an Altoids mints tin. I’ve got 15 half pans and they have little magnets on the back to hold them in. I’ve been using it for a couple of years and love it, but I’m thinking about maybe upgrading the quality of my paints sometime, although the prices are scary!!. (Currently using student grade paints)

What I did was ... as I used up each color, I purchased an "artist grade" tube to replace it. It causes less of a dent on the wallet.

This insight is most helpful as a lot of my paint I squeeze out on the palette goes to waist. I have not ventured outside of a split primary palette still learning. I did purchase a Daniel Smith Gold Green. I hear premixed green can be troublesome but thought I would give it a try. Does anyone have an opinion on watercolor tubes versus blocks (forgot what they call them)? Peace, Love and good Karma to all
