When I have a paid subscription to Ancestry or get records through my local library's Ancestry subscription I download any records to my laptop and then re-upload them to my tree on Ancestry so I can always see those records even without a subscription.

My guest tree has over 18,000 profile. Messaging is also now free, so you can contact people and access their trees for tree too. However, the tree access invite system was always free.

Thanks for this video. I didn't know there was a difference in free and free trial. I've been a member of Ancestry for many years and appreciate. I like family search for the free records but there's pro's and con's to everyone having the ability to change anything. I like that scanner!

I started with just the free tree on ancestry but that only allowed me very limited access to records. Now I have an account. The problem is the hints often pull up conflicting information. So it helps having a tree on a shated tree to compare. Also, by using both an ancestry tree and familysearch, once you verify rhe indi is correct, it is rasy to pull in up to 4 generations at time saving hours of entering by hand. A family member was a professional geneolofist and took my maiden name line back to 1500 including collateral lines. All are on family search up to maybe the 1970s. So quicker to pull over and then make any corrections on ancestry. This is like thousands of people.

I think it is great that the Ancestry user left the URL to the document in the image description! It isn't against anyone's Terms of Service to download the documents from FamilySearch and upload them to Ancestry? If we're allowed to do that, it would sure be a big help because some things I haven't been able to find on Ancestry but found them on FamilySearch. I have just been using the person tree profile notes section to put the source information there so that I can find the FamilySearch document later. That's what I have done with links to obituaries that I've found on funeral home sites, too, plus, I copy/paste the obituary into the notes section, too. Thanks for a very informative video! Have a blessed day. :)

I started on Ancestry more than 20 years ago with a free account. It only took me about 3 years to realize I couldn't live without a paid account, and have loved it ever since. Thanks for the video reminding me of the time when I was starting out and the encouragement to keep going.

Found these shortcut about three months ago, and as a fake spouse you can also build and add cousin match trees until you find the connection. It is all I do know. However, I did all my research for several on Familysearch years ago, now I do my DNA match research on Ancestry.

I just noticed that in the Ancestry app you can see your dna matches' public trees without a paid subscription as long as they are linked trees... you can only see their direct ancestors and their basic info. In the Ancestry website you don't have this access without a paid subscription.

with a free guest account are all the records you showed us restricted to the area of the world you live in or is the information available worldwide ? I have a paid account in the UK so cannot see US records without a worldwide account. Love your videos.

That’s a great question. And I don’t know the answer. I don’t work for Ancestry, so I don’t have easy access to those answers. I would assume you need worldwide access to see US records.

Thank you for the video! I have a question sort along these lines maybe you'll know the answer. I pay for an Ancestry account, but if I were to let it lapse, even though the tree itself would remain, would all source docs I've attached, remain attached? Just curious, thanks again.

Do you know how to download multiple pages at once? I want to dl the whole slave owners registration and marriage logs I keep having to go back and I prefer to create my own OCR database. I found this to be the most effective way to compile a large number Ancestors via cross reference search. Familysearch limits donloads within a specific time frame and ancestry only lets me do 1 page at a time. Also FS has their files all mixed up. It jumps from book 1 or 2 of marriages then jumps to births for the 3rd book instead of marriages.

Does this still work with a ancestry account used for ancestry DNA results? Because I've got a friend that just started her ancestry account and made a family tree after taking ancestry DNA she doesn't know that much about her family.

Re Vivid Pix - do you think the quality is better than a flat bed scanner?
@GenealogyTV
@GenealogyTV Жыл бұрын
The Vivid Pix scanner goes up to 600 dpi. My flatbed scanner scans up to 2400 dpi. I use a higher resolution scanner when I scan a photograph that needs to be zoomed in to the details in the photograph. The 600 Vivid Pixs scanner is plenty high resolution for genealogy. I love it. Go to genealogytv.org/sponsors for more information.

How real are the hints that they give us?
@GenealogyTV
@GenealogyTV 5 ай бұрын
I would say about 50% of the time they are good... Keep in mind it is a machine. It is trying to match up the data that is exact or close to the same. It is sorted from the most likely on down... but that doesn't mean the top hint is correct... especially the family trees as a hint.
