Im renovating a 3 bed dilapidated semi and the biggest lesson learned is to get the right tools for each job that makes the task so much easier. Watching your vids has helped so much in lots of projects. The new fence is planned for the summer and now have the list of tools to make he job a little less demanding...cheers.

I bought a track saw, Makita, many years ago and to be honest I used a few times and didn’t really get on with it preferring my job site saw table. Then after the growth of KZbin especially the DIY channels I’m a convert and have confidence in its use. Great ‘fence’ vid thanks for posting. Regards Mike

Top effort a few things I do differently being a fencing contractor for 19 years I’d have at least two bags round a 9 ft and I’d haunch up the slot to underside of concrete gravel board to prevent the boards dropping in the future with ground movement and suchlike.

Any advice for how to start a concrete post fence from the house wall? Should you drill into the wall for a concrete post above ground or use a wood post?
@adventurebeforedementia2090

Question: I always used to ensure that both ends of the gravel board sat on top of the concrete mix in the fence post hole. That way, once the concrete has set the gravel board is, in effect supported by the footings as well as the ground. If the ground between the fence posts settles over time the gravel board can’t drop and neither can the fence panel…! Is there any benefit in doing this? It always worked for me!

this is so helpful! would you be also able to film how to manipulate old low front garden wall? I have some most likely brick or some concrete wall (about 70cm tall) and i need to remove parts of it and attach some higher wall panels/posts to it. i could try to lattach it to the top of the wall (it's sloped both ways a bit) or screw the posts to the side maybe? i would like to not lose tmuch garden space, so ideally on top of or directly next to it. If you're looking for some ideas: I'm also looking for tutorials about how to figure out load bearing walls, also how dismantle a fireplace in a bungalow. It would also be lovely to see a comprehensive tutorial about building an ensuite (including extending plumbing (and considerations about what is possible to do if pipes are not already in place and not on other side of the wall either, does floor need to be ripped out where the pipes would need to go, etc) Also - is it possible to gradually, room by room, as budget allows, to install floor heating that would connecto to one main system, in time, what to consider where to put the main system and how to choose one. i'm hoping to change floors and put underfloor heating in my bungalow as a series of smaller projects, but hoping to get a final result that is everything connected to the same system and controlled via smart home features/thermostats etc. Also a video on how to change shower tray setup into a bathtub, or maybe put a bathub into a showertray (a big, 140x90 showertray walk in thing) or maybe tiling up a side so that a shallow kiddie pool is formed (can one even tile the shower tray?) If ever it takes you this way - a video on choosing a beginner friendly basic tool set (what options can be helpful for newbies, especially people smaller in posture, hands and strength) would be amazing. Thank you for your calm, down to earth and fun delivery and not making the channel too busy, flashy, frantic, loud. I can't stand the heavily edited shouty videos that are unbearable to watch and impossible to learn from.

I inherited one of these fences, where one panel blew out every time there was strong wind. Cable ties worked a treat to secure the panel, with just a few discrete holes in the panels. You wouldn’t see them if you didn’t know they were there.

If you want a lifetime fencing then yes use 9 foot concrete posts then don’t waste money buying gravel boards but instead pour your own concrete boards as this will hold the concrete posts solid on top of fixing the posts with concrete. Nothing will even move that post out of place and we all know fence panels are so clumsy they don’t last long, even the better quality featheredge panels will last you 4/5 years. Instead buy old second hand scaffold boards sand down and treat them then fix in place. Did this in my 120 foot garden 20 years ago and never looked back again apart from 5 yearly wood treatment. My neighbours boys have been playing football with friends in the garden for years no problem at all. LIFETIME.

Another option if access to the back garden is a problem and you need a light but strong post is a steel 'I' beam like the Durapost system. 3x3 Concrete posts weigh a lot and manhandling one through a kitchen, if you haven't access to your garden means the lighter weight makes it easier for one person to move what you need to the back of the house.

My next-door neighbour (who is responsible for) had the fence replaced between our back gardens last year and already it is falling apart. Featheredge boards were split as soon as they went up. No triangular arris rails used but rectangular rails where rain water collects. Trellis at the top already falling apart. Huge oversize holes dug for tbe posts and consequently a mass of concrete encroaching into the flower beds. I offered to errect the fence myself at no labour cost and despite them seeing the fence I had put at the bottom of my garden a few months earlier! 🙄😖🤬

I would have placed the panels on a 1 cm piece of wood and fixatie the panels to the poles. Also i would have placed a 1 cm thick piece of wood between the first and last pole and the line. Than between every pole to test the correct position. Once placed remove it. That way you prevent the line from being displaced by a touching pole. And the line will only touch the first an last pole
