Today we FINISH our ‪@SummitRacing‬ sponsored "How to Build a Ford 5.4L 3V Engine" series! I can't believe this is the last video in the series. In this video we put on the very last final touches like the plugs and coolant. Then double check all of our fluids. Lastly we hit the key and hear this thing roar to life into it's test drive! I do go over the total cost of MY engine and also what I think is a reasonable amount to spend on a rebuild. Thank you so much for watching!

I got caught up in the excitement of starting the engine, I forgot to say something obvious and the first thing you check. The oil pressure gauge. If you don't get good oil pressure in 5 seconds of starting the engine, turn it off and figure out what went wrong.

20:32 The best advice ever ! Even for those brand new cars picked up from the dealer. If your new car has loose steering and doesn’t sound good - the kids at the dealership took it for a spin already.

We are doing mine as we speak. Hopefully get it done before corn planting, so i can concentrate on less things. New trans $2300, New heads $1600, Pistons Timing Gaskets $1900. Put a steering rack in while accessible $225 and probably $500 in miscellaneous. 07 with 180000. Cooler line popped out of radiator and lost all transmission fluid, so that was reason for transmission swap.

So $6500? Hmmm....... And that included the transmission. I guess it's a better deal to do it yourself. A few recommended Jasper outside shops do those 54 tritons for about $ 7500. So it cost you a $1000 less and you got a transmission out of it... Pretty good deal I guess if you have the time and strength and energy.

I rebuilt the engine on my 2015 Mustang GT with a Kenne Bell supercharger. I also bought new everything only things I reused were my block and crank. I also refreshed the heads, but I did reuse my valve springs since they only had 15k miles on them. With labor of removal of everything and everything reinstalled to pricing on machine work the price of engine assembly was about 12k. My heads are a 32-valve which will up the cost. I also reused my cams and chain guides but I did get a new timing chain. Also keep in mind everything was removed when the engine was removed (exhaust, driveshaft, transmission) since it was dropped from the bottom of the car and not removed from the top of the car. Cool seeing other people pricing on their build. Keep up the good work💪 maybe one day I will do it myself but not practice on a high-end build like my Mustang. Maybe I should find a Z28 Camaro 1998-2000 would be good practice. Thanx for the great content!

Thank you Ryan for making this entire series ❗️ I was wondering if you met Brian (FordTechMakuloco). I think it would be awesome if you could do a collaboration with him. His knowledge of FORD’s is phenomenal ! I hope your channel will grow smoothly and rapidly, just like the engines you work on ! Your energy is amazing and helps a lot when working on Ford 5.4 3V engine! I wonder how many RedBulls it took to stay so happy 😉. Blessings and stay safe bro ! Mar.

My 07 F150 5.4 is 319000 miles. original engine. Still runs good but I can hear a little of rattle when I start the Engine. Collecting all the new the best parts to rebuild the Engine, but I am not going with forged connecting rods and pistons or king bearing, it's overkill for my needs. Thank you Sir for great videos.

Ryan.. how has the 5.4 done since the rebuild? Would you do anything different now that you’ve been driving g it for a while? I have an 07 with only 83,000 miles on it. I purchased it from an older man at 60,000 miles two years ago. So far the engine is running perfectly but I have a whine in the transmission or torque converter that is driving me nuts. I’m thinking I’ll do a timing job soon and try to make sure the engine doesn’t have the oil starvation issues it’s known for. A timing job is $$$ in my area $3000+. I’m tempted to pull the motor and transmission and rebuild. Would you do anything different now that you’ve been driving the overhauled 5.4 for a while?

It has ran amazing! I'm so happy I did this build! The only thing I'd change is get Ford OEM lifters. But everything else I'd keep the same. As long as you keep the oil clean, it shouldn't have those problems. Mine with 187k miles was totally fine because I kept the oil clean. It just needed one timing chain tensioner, but hey hindsight and everything. Now my truck is ready for 300k more miles I'm confident of it. Just go with Ford OEM lifters. Thanks so much for watching!

Hi Man, Putting back together timing build and decided to replace Oil Filter Adapter Gasket, last one I put on this 2004 FX4 was a Fel-pro and it seemed like it was plastic. The Motorcraft/Ford Gasket I just purchased is a METAL GASKET with black seals on it. I guess people were over tightening the plastic ones? My question is Should you Use Permatex Ultra Black gasket sealer on this gasket as you normally DO?

I am currently gathering parts for my 2005 rebuild. I am nearly certain that i currently have a bad roller follower and i am going to replace all the lifters and rollers. My question for you is, if my camshaft is not damaged, would you recommend to keep it or still replace it? I am trying to do a budget rebuild and I have OEM parts for everything else but like you said, those OEM camshafts are spendy. Let me know what you think. I really enjoyed your videos and found them to be really helpful, thank you.
@2carpros
@2carpros 5 ай бұрын
Good call! I'd go with Ford OEM parts for those too! Those camshafts are forged and usually pretty beefy. I'd drag my fingernail over the width of the lobe and if it catches anything then I'd replace it. But if not I'd run it. That's awesome! Thanks for watching!

What is an acceptable amount of metal to be able to see visibly? Is that just a by-product of the engine being recently rebuilt and is it expected to clear up in time? I'd be alarmed if I saw any amount of metal when giving one of my vehicles an oil change and would send it out for a Blackstone analysis, but I've also never done a complete rebuild on an engine.
@2carpros
@2carpros 9 ай бұрын
Great question! That is really a judgment call. You are going to see a little bit of metal on a fresh build. Even brand new cars from OEMs I have seen a little bit of metal in the first change and the engine goes 200k no problem. If you are really concerned you can take a picture of your filter and first quart of oil, email it to ryan@2carpros.com and I'll take a look at it! Thanks for watching!

OUCH! To be fair it is a lot of work and a new timing set is around 800 bucks at cost. Probably 1000 bucks in labor if I had to guess. But 3000 seems really steep. Sorry about that. The good news is, now your truck is ready to go for a long time! Thanks for watching!
