How To Build A Homemade Minnow Tank

This bait tank has been in service in the basement for 11 years and still going strong.It may be the best 50 fishing dollars iv'e ever spent.The freezer didnt work when i got it from a friend.Sure beats taking the lid off and throwing it in the land field.

i like that idea, i have a trash Side by side fridge freezer that i was gonna use as a worm garden, but i see another use for the other side instead of 2 different worm gardens. thank ya sir for getting the gears turning for little DIY projects

Hey if freezer still works you can turn it all the way up and put it on a timer and keep minnows cool where it's hot like in texas

That's exactly what I do but I use a 375 gal IBC tote. I keep bream for catfish and minnows for crappie

Great video with lots of tips and good information. I've been thinking about doing something like this for quite a while now. I do have a couple of questions. (1) What temperature do you try to maintain, or what is the best water temperature to maintain for the minnows? (2) Do you try to maintain the same temperature year round, and if so, how? From this, I'm thinking about the temperature swing we get from winter vs. spring and summer (I'm just below you in the northwest corner of SC). And finally, (3) you said you have kept them in your freezer/tank for several weeks; do you feed them anything, and if so how much and where do you get the food? Thanks so much for the effort you put into making this video!

Hey Patriot thanks for watching. The tank i have is in the basement so the temp changes but not sudden.Most of the time it never get over 75 degrees about the same as the house.The fish seem to adapt to the change as long as it is not sudden. However you will have more floaters in the summer time. Now if you can keep it cooler than that the fish will be more lively. As far as feeding the fish about every week you can give them a small amount of any fish flakes but be careful if you feed them to much they will die because of water contamination. It takes a fish a long time to starve.

word of advice *ditch the blue filter inserts and get some black course sponges and some bio media for that aquatech 40-60 filter. its like hot rodding you hang on back filter set up. **yes i know this comment is late, but better late than never my pappy always said**

Adding aquatic a few plants ( real plants give off oxygen and clean the water ) & a light will make them not only survive, but be healthy and big. Nice setup .. 😎👍

been thinking about such a set up for a while..thx for some great points..My problem here near tx coast..its 70 miles to near minnow shop...one way...and it gets hot and controlling...temp to and from store an in such a Minnow Tank ....thx

I have an old deep freezer that went out on me and that's what I'm fixing to use and I'm fixing to use a boat bilge pump in a five gallon bucket filter any other ideas would be welcome

The key to keeping bait alive is....constant water temperature. I have a freezer too, which I connected to an INKBIRD TEMP. CONTROLER, purchased on ebay for, roughly $40. You need a working freezer for this to work, of course. Hope this helps you, somewhat. Good luck.
