Great build series. Enjoying your methods and thoughts as you simplify the daunting task of taking on a hot rod build, especially using the 'shaky' body you've got as a starting point. Hope you get many more subs along the journey. many thanks. 👍👍

Those of us who don’t have a shrinker/ stretcher will have to weld the inside edges and grind it smooth. Great video!

I have found them as cheap as $150 for the set, definitely worth it if you think about the time you're going to have into that piece welding and grinding.

It’s one of the first tools I bought. Definitely worth the investment when you know you’ll be doing sheetmetal. But there are certainly options.

Looking good! Will you finish weld or seam seal ? 🤠🤗
@ThisOldHotrod
@ThisOldHotrod Жыл бұрын
Kinda depends if the car sells or not. If it doesn’t I’ll keep welding. It’ll get seam sealed also. But I’d like to move it along and let the next person decide what they want to do. They may chose to remove the floor or change something. So I’m hesitating on finish welding anything.

Mike I am so happy that you decided to make that rear spring hump cover it was very simple and I am sure that everyone out here looking in could understand how you were going to make it all fit. Nice work my friend. Steven

Thanks so much Steven. It’s pretty cool by me doing these projects I’m able to show people the process and they may take something away from it and apply it in their build. Very rewarding. 🙏🏼👍🏼

I really liked how you made the rear crossmember cover Mike! Oh, the value of a shrinker & stretcher for a nice finished appearance with those 1/4 inch tabs! The build is coming along great! The only thing I think should be different would be a T bucket tub lakes roadster then I would be lining up to buy it! haha A rough roller would be great for an old timer like me to start with. I think you had a great idea building it that way for folks like me to finish. Thanks for the fun video and all the best to you and Allie!

@@ThisOldHotrod Thanks for your consideration, Mike. let me know as the time gets closer. I'm thinking just a full width tub on an A frame and roller like you are doing now. I'd pefer a 26/27 tub but anything really. Thanks again for listening!

Love your build! Great talk at the end . By the way, what is the purpose of the 2 large dimples and rivet on the upper sides of model A cowls. I subscribe to channels that build Model A's and T's and no one ever deletes them and I keep wondering why.
@ThisOldHotrod
@ThisOldHotrod Жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏🏼. I think you’re talking about the radiator stay rod mounts. They’re used to hood the radiator upright. A rod connects the radiator to the firewall.
@nboldrini
@nboldrini Жыл бұрын
@@ThisOldHotrod The dimples are on the sides of the cowl about 4 inches down from the top. The radiator rods are on the top. The dimples are an inch or more deep and appear to have no obvious function. The 28-29 ford does not have these, only the 30-31..
@ThisOldHotrod
@ThisOldHotrod Жыл бұрын
That’s the spot where the sides of the hood meet the top of the hood. They indent there for the hinge areas. There’s really no reason to delete them. It would be a lot of extra work for nothing. Unless you were trying to smooth the firewall. I’m sure it’s been done, like everything else. Just not typical I suppose.
@nboldrini
@nboldrini Жыл бұрын
@@ThisOldHotrod Thanks, that sounds like a good explanation. When I was a kid just about everyone in my family owned model A's. I guess I never looked under the hood. One of my fondest memories is the view standing on the seat peering out through the windshield along the top of the hood with the chrome headlights sticking up on both sides and the shiny chrome brackets with the knobs that held the windshield. Thank you!

It's a really cool build, I enjoy your after-work talks, and I just like your style. You seem like a really cool guy, and I would love to have you as a neighbor. I appreciate what you've done.
