Also, knowing the minimum room sizes helps. A bathroom fits in a 2×3, a double bed fits in a 4×4, a living room 5×6 etc.
@lumindoesvideos10 ай бұрын
You can commit more shenanigans in bathrooms than you'd expect if you have Snowy Escape or Discover University. The smallest I've seen is 3×1 because those packs have a shower that your sim can walk through.
@3lli010 ай бұрын
@@lumindoesvideos oh yes. I was saying 2×3 for a family house. Bathtub/shower combo, sink and toilet
@lumindoesvideos10 ай бұрын
@@3lli0 that's definitely the smallest one that would make sense in a real house or for a house with a family. I have what would easily be a 2×3 bathroom in real life. It's not ideal but it's functional. But it's funny to think that the true smallest is 3×1 but that requires you to ignore toddlers and pets.

The fact you are doing a build along and doing it just base game so everyone can do it is so amazing. A lot of big simmers don’t put in a lot of effort to make sure everyone feels included. They use a million different packs and don’t explain the cheats and everything. We love you Kayla! ❤❤❤
@abrisc3210 ай бұрын
we are 10 years into sims 4. the fact that kayla still does only base game or base game + 1 pack 80% of the time is annoying. by now most simmers are exploring their options and building to tend to their creativity and sharing their tips. we should be past posting “base game build under 20k” every other week
@Lisa_Flowers10 ай бұрын
@abrisc32 if you find it that annoying then just go watch all the other simmers who do everything you outlined. I'm new to the sims, and as much as I love crazy expensive builds with lots different packs (which Kayla also does) because of the entertainment value, I really appreciate that there are simmers who still try to keep things simple and accesible. It makes it easier for me to get into the game. There's literally nothing wrong with having both. And like you said, MOST people aren't limiting themselves, so why complain about the few people who are? Does everyone need to approach the sims in the exact same way, or make the same kinds of content? Obviously, no. 'We should be past' - no, you and a lot of people are past it. But many people clearly aren't, hence the original comment thanking Kayla, and the many viewers who return every day. There is nothing wrong with approaching the sims in different ways. It's weird to try and get a creator to adhere to a standard you have created. Just watch someone else if you don't like it. No one is forcing you watch videos you think are boring or annoying.

@@abrisc32 I think it’s funny that you say this because lilsimsie does a good number of builds where she uses a larger number of packs/fun floor plan/creative build etc. They have SO MANY different sims creators here on KZbin and they all do different stuff. If you want some simmers who maybe do more eccentric builds I recommend CarynandConnieGaming, SydMac, and FakeGamerGirl. The Sims community is a large community. So instead of hating on lilsimsie for what she doesn’t do, find a different sims KZbinr who does what you want to see!
@kelsidysinger766710 ай бұрын
@@abrisc32 packs are expensive and not everyone has the luxury of owning every single pack. Kayla has plenty of builds that use multiple packs and honestly doesn’t have that many that are just base game. If you don’t like it go watch other simmers. Sorry she’s trying to be inclusive for everyone

You can translate a floorplan by dividing the size of the room by 2.5 and rounding the result. That does a fairly good job of translating real-life room sizes to sims tiles.

Another thing I found helpful for scaling is to look at what you are referencing and find either a window or a door that exists in the game that is similar to what you are trying to copy on the house. Use that as a scale reference and "count" the spacing using the window or door. I usually opt for a window. You can generally guess the size of a room based on how many "windows" fit on a wall. This works great for smaller houses, but its more complicated for larger houses because in real life windows can be all sorts of sizes and in the sims, most windows are 1 or 2 tiles (sometimes 3) so the scaling gets weirder with larger houses. But its still helpful if you want to make things as close to the picture as possible imo

It would be really cool if maybe you made this like a mini series and showed how to build different style houses. Like maybe a big Victorian house and that can also be a way to show how to use rounded/hexagonal walls since a lot of them have a spire in the front. It could also be a way to use one pack at a time i.e generations/craftsman style, vampires/Victorian, snowy escape/japanese style.

A good guide to converting IRL floor plans to TS4 (or any Sims game honestly) is to divide the measurements by 3. Tiles in the Sims are approximately 1 meter square, so that's a good rule to follow. I almost exclusively convert IRL floorplans so I'm very comfortable with the concepts. You can find some of my work on the gallery under the same username as here.

Another good tip is starting by building the obvious rooms like the 2x3 bathrooms. When you have those as reference, building the rooms around them becomes easier when calculations are wonky.
@lady_apocalypse17810 ай бұрын
As someone who always uses floorplans too my personal tips is to use the beds. I check how many times a bed would fit in a bedroom and/or amount of space around it and base the rest of the house around the size of said bedroom. But I have done this so often nowadays I usually tweak it to my needs, a tile bigger or smaller depending on what I want to put in the room and then adjust the rest so it doesnt look out of place.

In all my years playing the game I have never built a house in Sims 4 that wasn't just a rectangle with rooms and a roof. My husband recently got into the game after watching me play it and while I was able to answer most of his questions regarding the game, I was lost when it came to building. We watched this video together, and I have to thank you for all of your tips and demonstrations. I especially appreciate the tip about looking up houses online and finding the floor plan. This past weekend, I found a house floor plan that I really liked and put your advice to use! While it is not an exact replica of the floor plan I found, the build I made is very much inspired by it. As I said before, my builds before this were kind of like a bento box in house form. But this one...I am really proud of it! It's not anything extravagant, but it is unique and looks like something that I would want to live in myself if I could afford it! Now, I just need to practice making two story houses.

The corners of the siding with trim do place consistently. The placement is not a problem once you understand it and adjust accordingly. Primarily, the trim cannot be placed on 1-tile walls, and thus will not be placed on 1-tile deep bumpouts. This is where Simsie has trouble with it, but a house can still look good if the bumpouts are restricted to 2 tile walls, or if a different wall paint is used on the bumpout, or if that bumpout simply doesn't have trimmed corners.

I have always downloaded houses from the gallery. I was originally a TS1 and TS2 player, I haven’t had much experience with TS4 at all really. Just a few months. I love your channel and I love this video in particular because I am absolutely useless at building, and really want to learn, and I’ve decided you are going to be my teacher - whether you want to be or not, lol 😂 I am just firing up my game and am excited to try this build. You made it look simple, but I bet it takes me hours upon hours, lol. Thank you for all the time you spend trying to help folk like myself, who are visual learners! Much appreciated. Happy New Year to you and yours 💙 Watch this space, lol 😂

Actually useful and did learn some tricks about roofing, creating a nice porch roof, and dorms even.

There is a flat foundation that you can shift place where you want your garage door if you put your house up on foundation so it still makes visual sense. the rest of the house can still have whatever foundation you want. If you have islant living you can also create on open by deleting the walls where the garage door would be and extending the ground above in a square above it. Size down the floor windows (the ones meant to create skylights) and palce them near the base open "door" so it looks like an open garage door.

Thank you soo, soo much for this pretty build 😊❤ I love it, I'd like to turn it into an 8 sims starter, but I guess it's a little too pricy 😅 I saw, that it costs more than 30k and it's empty. But I'll try my best to put a few necessary things and delete a little decorative objects (especially in the garden). So maybe I can move in with my 4 Generation 8 sim family who are the greatgranny, the grandparents with their 3 daughters (young adult & 2 teens) and the baby and the infant of the oldest daughter. 😊
