How to Build a Hydrofoil: Wing Resin Sealer Coat (Video 4/15)

Now that the foil wings are shaped, it's time to seal the wood. In this video How to Build a Hydrofoil: Wing Resin Sealer Coat we paint on Epoxy Resin to seal the timber of the foil wing core so that the timber will no longer move or cup. This also serves as a better surface for fiberglassing (the next steps) as it stops the resin absorbing at different rates, and provides a nice clean surface for the fibreglass laminations.
We start by re-attaching the mounting blocks to make the pieces easier to handle, nad then using a 2-part epoxy resin system we paint on the resin using a paintbrush.

Love your work! I'll finish watching this series then have a go at making these. Did you know that if you paint the epoxy onto a wooden part and then go over the part with a heat gun, the epoxy briefly thins out and absorbs into the wood? It'll soak in surprisingly deep and saves getting drips. A few coats of this and the impregnated wood can be easily sanded and polished to a finish that's good enough for moulding. My mistake, this was the easiest step! My first mix of epoxy resin. I didn't order the Entropy resin, but I will in the future. The resin I ordered apparently doesn't contain UV inhibitors, so now I will need to paint it or use a spar varnish for uv protection.
