That “false eject” is a serious problem. It plagued me on my North bar for way too long.

Great job! But I do not think mast-fuse connection with three M6 bolts is strong enough. I would put additional connectors, that have upper end of trapezoidal shape, 30mm length, inserted into mast channels. And bottom end is round pin, 10mm diameter and 20mm length, inserted into 10mm holes in fuselage. These parts can be designed in TinkerCad and 3d printed from aluminum. Or, two 50mm x 10mm round aluminum pins can be glued into mast channels with epoxy-glass compound (2-3 mm fiberglass chop). That is even better - you do not need to drill 10mm holes in fuselage very precisely. Just drill two 20mm deep holes, cover fuse with PVA release, insert pins. Put "corks" into mast channels to 35mm depth, put some epoxy-glass compound into the channels. Put fuse on top, deeping pins into the channels. Screw fuse with bolts. Done.

+ my like! some notes: The diameter of the holes is sufficient for the bolt heads but not for the top part of the fuselage that connects to the main wing. The fuselage will press its edges against the wing. Even with four layers of fiberglass and one layer of carbon, it cannot hold the load. The leverage at that point is approximately 30 times (40/1.27). If you suddenly press the tip of the wing against the ground with your weight (80 kg), it will create a force of 2400 kg distributed over an area of 20x0.2 cm where the fuselage edge touches the wing surface. I don’t think the laminate can hold it. The wood under the laminate will eventually be compressed and deformed. For my wing, I removed all the wood under the fuselage and tapered the walls, shaping the orifice like \__/ (wing bottom up). Then, I filled that cavity with cut fiberglass compound. This created a firm and reliable platform for the fuselage connection.

What I did for better adhesion, was I heated wings to 120-130 C, so some water evaporated and air exhausted from wood. Then when it was ~80 C I applied resin, that quickly absorbed into the wood. I applied more and put carbon cloth lamination. Main point - you should not wait until base layer of resin got completely cured before applying next layer. If it is not cured - the bond will be strong chemical bond, if cured, the bond will be weaker adhesion bond. So, my way it created strong chemical bond from resin-soaked wood to top layers of lamination.

Great job! Cedar is good, easy to work with, light and "waterproof". It is naturally rot protected. Which is good, but this "oiliness" can cause poor resin adhesion and delamination. I prefer to work with a plywood. It is better to be a marine PW. But thin-ply "Russian birch" works very well. Plies help to see if shapes of each side are identical (or close enough). Also birch plywood is stronger and less tend to warping.

Question: it is said that the max thickness is 14mm. Flat wood from the diy store has a thickness of 15mm. Does it also work, because it is hard to get 1mm away?

Used this method today in light winds (10-12 kts) - worked perfectly. Thank you for the video and caveats - I’ll take those on board for sure. Could one use this method in reverse to self-launch in relatively light winds? I’m thinking unhooked and walking the lines in advance of course
@FlukesKitesurfingАй бұрын
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I wouldn't do it in reverse. This method is kind of my last resort land only used whne i really need it. to launch I would be inclined to setup an anchor if its rough terrain or use the drag method on sand. Hope that helps :)

Thx a lot for sharing your know ledge. It Is possibile ti scale this plans for a foil right for low Wind/Wing foil? Only scaling aspect ratio and surface, whithout thickness? Or scaling all 3 demension? Thx a lot!
@FlukesKitesurfing2 ай бұрын
Hey! Glad its helpful. You can actually try that, bit i would be inclined to add thickness too, but you can play around with all combos of dimensions and see how they perform. One thing to pay attention to with this plan is to reinforce the wing to Fuse connection point, because if you make a bigger front wing it will add a lot of load on those screws. So add more/thicker screws or a socket connection.

I used this method again today in really light conditions, the kite would get up on its tip but then fall back on its back edge again and sink. After a few tries I was able to figure out how to prevent that. When the kite gets up on its tip, do not let go of the front line until the kite leaves the water.
