One of the best desk to kitchen island conversions I have seen. Only thing I might have done differently is to put felt or some of those round slides on the bottom, so the wood couldn't accidentally scratch the floor. But it's beautiful and has SO MUCH STORAGE!

Aside from the small table saw, this project was completed primarily with a hand drill and sweat equity which in turn made the unintended minimalist theme of this video inspiring. No young renter I have ever met (including myself a few decades ago) has the budget or the thousands of dollars worth of tools for such a project unless they get really creative. Well done.

@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog - I am curious to see how the hollow core doors fare used on the flat like that. Especially the middle piece. I used a hollow core door to build my kitchen island but used the pieces vertically. Check it out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF6pmaZ-at1snas

I like that you made it bigger, like a real island. Too many other videos just paint the desk and call it an island. I like the hardware you chose. The closet door idea is unique. I love the overhang that you did. Did miss the pull out cutting board.idea? I'll have to rewatch!. Thanks!

I love this! I agree about the chalk paint! Did you use any finish on the chalk paint? I did a desk to island diy as well and I used a clear finishing wax on top of the chalk paint. It’s only been a couple weeks but so far it makes cleaning easier. It still has a matte finish but looks and feels a little better.

Welcome to the Woods so I went out today and got butcher block for $100 and a base cabinet on sale for $50. It’s an 18in cabinet. I envisioned a little bit of overhang but I don’t think my butcher block is big enough. Therefore I may not create a seating area and just do shelves on the left side of the cabinet. Feeling totally courageous since I didn’t spend $1,000 on a cookie cutter island at Kohl’s 🤪🤪
