When I had to re-aquire a wardrobe after a house fire three years ago, this was the list I followed. My mother gave me this list 30 years ago - it's not only ideal, it's timeless. My only difference, cordovan, cole haan, penny loafer before the brown lace up. Of course, because they're so incredibly out of style, makes me appreciate them more.

Highly useful information, Jeff. You provide great suggestions for anyone on a budget or just starting out. One issue I deal with is culling items out of my wardrobe since I have been building my wardrobe over decades. Since I live in Minnesota which has distinct seasons, I need different clothes for different seasons. Twice per year, I change over my wardrobe from winter to spring and fall to winter. During this changeover, I cull out the clothes that I don't wear or don't fit quite right. This has worked for me to the point I'm ready for almost anything. Your strategies for a minimalist wardrobe are excellent. Well done!

I'm with you. A tan/khaki light bomber. Throw that on over a flannel shirt or t-shirt or polo with dark wash jeans, over an oxford button-down with olive chinos, over a sweater with wool trousers. More versatile. Fits a reasonable range of outfits, whereas (imo) denim jackets are super casual. That's really the only part I disagree with. The rest of the video is absolutely spot-on. Love it! Gotta catch up with the rest of your videos now!

I just started tossing everything out and watching you to fix my wardrobe. 2 years ago I was 300 pounds and wore a lot of baggy clothing. Now I'm 175 pounds and dressing more casual. Just started and already have girls smiling at me, so thank you. They're loving the chelsea and chukka boots looks. I'm 37 and sadly I was dressing like a teenager. Man, I just love your selection. And that dark green chino.. Wow. I'm going to get one that perfectly fits me. I really think that this colour will pop in the fall and winter. A dark grey or black turtleneck on it with some sneakers would kill any competition. My personal minimalist approach is an indigo pair of slim fit jeans, a black one, a grey one and a lighter shade of blue, with staples of white, black, grey, sky blue and dark green slim fit t-shirts without any logos on them. Fit over fashion.

I mean this list is good to hear but on a practical note, these 20 pieces are not gonna be sufficient to go through a full week. For example, if you work in a 9-5 job. You need at least 3-4 OCBD shirts and 2 pairs of chinos. That's only one example scenario. Likewise there are many scenarios. So it would be nice if you had given this disclaimer. Anyways it was great video mate!

I like that you mention affordable pieces. Most men's style channels harp on getting the "highest quality" someone can afford. But I find that after a certain price-point, the increases in quality don't match the increases in price. Also, maybe I prefer to spend my money on other things besides clothing and the fact that you mention $20 pants in this video proves it is possible to look good and still have money leftover to actually go out somewhere with those new clothes.

Weather is pretty shitty where I live so a trench coat or a parka is my go to instead of the trucker jacket. I also only wear light colored clothing in the summertime so no khaki chinos for me. Black jeans also instead of the regular blues since most my shoes are black. Lighter colour shoes just get destroyed out there 😂 Great picks though for normal countries with decent weather.
