Kind of crazy, but this is one of very few videos on KZbin that covers how to make a traditional picket fence! I’ve been confused with how to go about making a smooth even run on an incline and your spacer would solve that issue no problem. Thanks for the video.

Hey, this video is great! Yes at 20 minutes it's a time commitment, but this was the most useful one I've found that I can follow as someone who has never done anything like this before...and also has a house that needs a lot of work :). Paying others for everything gets really expensive!

You did great. It's worth it to rent a 1 man auger from HD for $40 for 4 hours and get the holes dug. You can pour the powdered cement in the hole and add water from a hose. Every body has a different way of doing things. I used a 4' level as the spacer/also kept it plumb. I like your home cut picketts.

Thanks! Yeah I am planning to put a privacy fence in our back yard eventually and it is much longer than this one so i will defiantly get a post hole digger next time! I like the level trick! Thank you for the comment!

Thanks for the video! I used this as a starting point to build a fence in our back yard so our dogs would have a place to run around. This was a great way to do it and it ended up saving me almost $3000 after getting a quote from a fencing company! My yard was a lot more unlevel than yours but I used the same concept for the rails and pickets and the fence still looks great!

I am posting my fencing journey on my website and I've included all the things I learned from you there, so thank you! You asked for feedback and the only thing I feel I'd like to see more of is how you got to your material plan in the beginning, otherwise everything was just right for me! Almost forgot I have linked to your video from my site too.

Great video, you should also reccomend that DIYers treat the wood that gets inserted into the ground with chemical to prevent rot. Also worth adding some gravel into the bottom of the hole to keep water from sitting around the post under the ground.

I love this! I have been looking for fence ideas for our Circa 1840 home. We don’t want a typical modern fence. We want something that fits the time of the house. We were thinking of a farm type board fence...then I saw your picket fence and now I’m torn! I watched your whole video through and I feel kind of confident about attempting this type of project ourselves...except...my husband and I aren’t very knowledgeable of building things...I am a wiz at assembling things, but building using measurements is not a strong suit. But every homeowner needs to learn, right? Thank you for the inspiration! I subscribed to your channel and I look forward to learning new things from you!

Great video. I thought you explained and demonstrated things well. One suggestion I would have would be to list right up front what tools would be needed. I don't have some of those tools so while it was interesting to watch how you did it, it would be a much bigger investment for me because I'd have to buy or rent some tools before hand. Your fence looks great and it will last 100 years. Well done!

I used this video to build a 320 foot fence, 4 feet tall. I found placing 3'' of gravel at the bottom of each post keeps the soil from rotting the wood. I also raised the cement to above the soil line, with it sloping away from the wood, to shed water away from the wood. So in the end, my posts have zero contact with soil. Also, those floor joint brackets have holes at the edges. Fence brackets are better attached to the middle of the post, I found. I bought the ones you have, but returned them because the screws were too close to the edge of the post. Maybe your posts are larger than the 4x4s I am using. It would be helpful to mention how you determined the positioning of your rails.
