This works so well because the ground at the bottom of his ramp is level with his shed floor. If the ground was not level at the base of the ramp you will have to spend time making it level. Otherwise great video.

Best shed ramp video I've seen. Everyone else's are good as well but they are overkill and overbuilt. I needed something quick like this that will last a while. Only change I'd make is pressure treated wood and maybe one more joist. But this is going to last a long time and the scribe concept was great

Your video is great, so much easier to build my ramp than I imagined. I used your Lumber list exactly. The only difference for me was I used joist hangers as I only have a finish nailer and small compressor, and the hangers made that part of the work easy for me. The way you used the 2x6 to mark that angle was brilliant. Thank you

Really nice job but missing one very important thing...the foundation underneath the wood ramp. There should have been around 2" of gravel under it. It keeps the wood from rotting and for the weight of a riding lawn mower for longevity, use four boards instead of only three.
@robertpowell70736 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for the comment. I didn’t post this video, but that’s me doing the build. Gravel underneath certainly wouldn’t hurt. But, I’ve been doing them this way for two decades, and more to the point, I’ve got hundreds currently under warranty, and I’m comfortable with the way I’ve shown here. Obviously anything on KZbin should be considered with caution and make sure you do it the way you think is best. The main reason I made this video was to show how to get the angles on the joists. Hopefully people have found that helpful and they can modify any of the rest to best suit their needs.

Nice but I believe your usually better off having a FREE STANDING ramp you can move if needed for several reasons. One is if you need to work on it or do landscaping around it. The other is it cannot eventually fail and you and your tractor go flying.

What if the ground doesn’t level out in front of the shed say it’s 6 inches or 8 inches higher on one side than the other? Would this method still work by scribing the bottom line with a template of a scrap piece of wood?
@Toasty_Woasty2 ай бұрын
You would want to level out the ground by digging and/or filling. One you have a level surface you can use rocks to help water drain.

Great video! One question: How did you know how long to make the stringers before you marked out for the angle cuts? Thanks!

Six feet is just the standard we use. Actually it can be a challenge to know how long your ramp needs to be. If you think it might be too steep, it probably will be.

@@momtaxi18 it's the piece of metal at the top of the ramp that protects the wood shed floor when you are moving things in and out of the shed, or driving a lawnmower up the ramp.

Hold the boat, mark one, cut it and check it to each one on layout. Then adjust. Then cut all at once. Pattern
@carolinayardbarns26128 ай бұрын
Yes in this case that could have worked because there was no side to side slope. Often times each one has to be cut to slightly different pitch.

Question. And maybe a dumb one. But did you just use standard woods screws or deck screws to secure the ledger board to the shed? And how long? Thank you.
@carolinayardbarns26127 ай бұрын
It is attached with 3" galvanized framing nails, and a lot of them.
@fivepointslo88937 ай бұрын
@@carolinayardbarns2612 thank you so much. One more question. How much mating surface do you think is needed for the ledger to the joist? I believe my door hangs a little lower than the one in your video. Thank you.
@fivepointslo88937 ай бұрын
@carolinayardbarns2612 sorry last one. My yard has a slight slope.left to right. Do you think I would be fine cutting each stringer and the appropriate angle to match the slope, or should I dig the ground and level it. Thanks again
@Jerdejong148 ай бұрын
Hello, what is the purpose of the ledger board? Can't the joists be attached right to the shed, without the ledger?
@robertpowell70738 ай бұрын
Hi, the ledger board is necessary in this instance so that the joists have full bearing. You can see that the bottom of the ledger hangs down lower than the shed joists. If the shed joists were larger then the ledger wouldn’t be necessary.
