Thank you, this is the first of your videos I have watched. I will be building one of those today. We have a squirrel that just started showing up the wife is in love with it. So I will build a few yours is simple and will be easy to duplicate thank you again.

We have this feeder. And.... absolutely LOVE the Wood Thrush’s flute-like singing in the background. They’re wonderful to hear, because they are nearing extinction.

I made a feeder like this for the Douglas/pine squirrels in our backyard. I cut a large hole in the bottle lid, and attached it to the box with small screws. This allowed for a secure fit to the box, but it didn't prevent raccoons from figuring out how to unscrew the jar for access to the sunflower seeds inside. It's best to feed squirrels with seeds in the shell, so they have to gnaw a bit to get to the meat. Squirrels' teeth grow so fast that they need to, continually, grind them down to prevent overgrowth.

I love it because I don't think the Blue Jays will get into this feeder. The Blue Jay's steel my squirrel's food. I'm trying to figure something out to keep the mean Blue Jays from the food!
@Shafries2 жыл бұрын
I built one of these years ago and surprisingly the blue jays figured it out! I'm going to build another one with smaller holes in the sides to negate this.

This is so funny a wild squirrel became my friend LOL and he comes when I call him and everything in his name is Jerry! Not to mention I do animal rescue and I currently have two baby squirrels that were orphaned that are soon to be released and I was thinking about making one of these boxes putting it on my porch for an easier release for them

Fyi... Use one 1/4" lag with washer top and bottom just snug. Each year back out and re-tighten. Multiple fasteners horizontally will eventually split the back piece as the tree grows.

I find the best food for squirrels are little lead pellets between the ears.
@ChiefsFan624 жыл бұрын
Great! I might have to try it sometime. I would have to make it raccoon proof, though. We used to have a similar one with a glass jar and they kept taking it out and dropping it on the ground. We even screwed a piece on the end to hold it, but they eventually tore it off, too. It lasted through quite a few falls before it broke.
@RunBikeMike4 жыл бұрын
Oh no. I have a raccoon 🦝 in my area now. I will have to keep an eye on it.

I really hope this works cuz being on guard patrol daily so my squirrels can eat in peace without my neighbors awful 10 diff bird feeders but yet these 4 bluejays n now crows have decided peanuts n pissin me off daily is how they get there kicks off pellet guns no longer doing its job..its unbelievable how much my poor squirrels have changed their daily routines due to my neighbors obsession with birds yet birds can fly plus everyone around here has at least 3feeders (besides me) but not good enough they want shelled peanuts which i cant afford to go thru 2 huge bags every other wk..yah its been war for me i dont understand they know damn well im shootin to hit them but yet theyll try findin diff ways wkly to sneak n steal ..this winters been hard for animals/critters now i have 14 turkeys that walk,fly by stop eat neighbors feeders fightin with the crows over the caches they dig up with there feet!talk about headache but i luv my greys so if those pests try fittin in the tiny circle for a peanut ....good hope they get stuck so they can leave my squirrels be its annoying!!thank u for this video!

Turned out great, shame you screwed it to a tree. Sick of seeing people do that after spending ages on a great build like this, it's just lazy and thoughtless. Many better ways to securely attach it to a tree without nailing or screwing into it. Only limited by the imagination.
