Another video did this experiment with both sides completely sanded. I just tried it, and it worked some of the time. I think the wire vibration in the end loop can occur at a frequency which provides intermittent electrical contact. Even when it didn't spin and stayed still, you can feel the Lorentz force. You might want to try it.

Not perfect but simple (as you said). Appreciate your effort, thank you very much. I gonna look for leftovers to obtain a similar experiment. I also want to measure rpm with a tachometer that I simply use my cell phone as it. Actually, I have came here for anemometer which I would build mine.

You can use any kind of metal wire. It just has to have the enamel coating that insulates it, or you’re gonna have a short, and burn yourself. Motors, transformers, inductors, and those old TV or computer monitors have this wire on the deflection yokes, mounted over the color (blue red & green) ray guns.

Yes - it should work with a C, or AA battery as well. Really, it depends on the voltage of your light bulb. I would stay away from the 9 volt battery.

It will work with another battery. The 9 volt battery won't work so well because the two terminals are on the top.
