Hi, great video. Myself and my 7 year old are just starting out first antweight build. Are you able to share the 3D print files for the body of the robot and the other printed components?

In Vanguard I am currently using DFRobot 'Gravity' motor drivers, they come pre-soldered to the motors and can handle 7.4V. I will probably stick with them until I can get some RoryBoards (tm). For armour Ti sheet is also an option, I get mine from random Chinese folk on eBay. I am currently working on a 3D printed Vanguard, maybe the wheels will even be on the ground this time!

If you're using a dual motor controller (that should have mixing built in), you shouldn't need to turn mixing on the transmitter. If you do need the Tx mixer, I'll try and dig something up.

This is really awesome, thank you for doing this. Two really stupid questions that have been bugging me since I first started thinking about building an AW- 1) I've always considered going lexan/polycarbonate for armour, but with that how would you go about actually putting the chassis together? Cutting panels individually then screwing them all together, making a single piece chassis that attaches to a baseplate, etc? 2) The most daunting aspect to me as someone with virtually no electrical/engineering experience is wiring- namely getting it so everything does what I/the transmitter tell it to do. Is setting up the controls and connections between the receiver, ESC and motors complicated?
@TeamMutuallyAssuredDestruction
@TeamMutuallyAssuredDestruction 7 жыл бұрын
american roboteer here who has built 2 UK antweights 1. usually builders do a single piece of lexan folded several times to create a "shell". 2. wiring is pretty easy (if you live in the UK you can buy a custom electronics package for a UK antweight to make it even easier)
@tourdeforce17
@tourdeforce17 7 жыл бұрын
1) I never considered the fact you could bend lexan... 2) Yeah I'm aware of the nano-two kits and have always considered going for that route, but this video and a couple of other things recently have made me consider just going all in and doing it from scratch to get the experience Thanks for the reply!
@jds355
@jds355 7 жыл бұрын
I personally would cut out a net of your chassis, heat it up and bend the net of the shape in the required places. However, I have tried this with perspex, but I don't know how it would work with polycarbonate. Electronics-wise, you only really need to learn how to solder, and the wiring is not that complicated as the companies have already designed all of the electronics.

Great video, I'm just starting out myself and was wondering if the DasMikro 2S6A has a built in BEC or a way of stepping down the voltage from my 7.4V LiPo? Thanks
@Team_Panoramic

The DasMikro's input voltage is 4.2V-9.6V and has 5V1A BEC. So it'll handle a 7.4v LiPo battery.

I assume that it's basically the same for high weight classes, just using different parts? (I'm planning a beetle weight)
@MattS-eh6fw
@MattS-eh6fw 4 жыл бұрын
Higher weights will need stronger battery requirements and therefore you might need to have a separate circuit where you use servos to actuate switches to control the other higher power circuit. Otherwise you could end up putting 12V or so into a receiver that cant handle it and blow it, or have vastly underpowered motors

This guide has been SO helpful for me getting things together. I have bought the first esc you have mentioned as rory is so busy that he hasnt even replied to me in weeks which is understandable. So i have bought pretty much everything else i need to get things together apart from a receiver and some batterys + charger. My only problem is i have no idea how the heck anything pieces together so far. I need to do some soldering and piece it all together inside a test chasis but i have no idea how to do anything of that. It will be a learning experience but i was wondering if you or anyone else knows about any other indepth guides for this kinda stuff? Anything on robot101 or other forums as i am not active on them.

Your man's speed controllers are currently unavailable. Can you recommend anywhere else to get a decent set up from? My boy wants me to build him an antweight, and having a very limited tool set up, I don't really have the capacity to build one from teh ground up.

If you use an ESC, do you still need the gear box? Recommendations for a transmitter?
@MattS-eh6fw
@MattS-eh6fw 4 жыл бұрын
You dont need a gearbox at all, it just increases the torque coming directly from the motor. Any motor without a gearbox can be used but unless you use servos to power the wheels an esc is always necessary. As he stated in the video cant go wrong with a spektrum transmitter, ive used the Dx6e before with great results

where can i get a cheap transmitter and receiver for under £20 with 4 channels?
@Team_Panoramic
@Team_Panoramic 7 жыл бұрын
With Spektrum technology at a price like that they're quite hard to come by. There was the MLP4DSM transmitters but they gone up to around £35 because of how rare they're going now they're discontinued apparently. May be able to get hold of some DSM2/DSMX transmitters second hand for that price.

Thee doesn't seem to be an easy way of recharging the batteries, would it be posible to insert a charging circuit board so I could just plug it into a phone charger or something?
@Team_Panoramic
@Team_Panoramic 6 жыл бұрын
There are USB wall chargers somewhere but I'd highly advise to steer clear from them. Some don't have the control over how much charge and current to put into LiPo's meaning a potential fire hazard. For an easy charger I'd reccomend this one: hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-12v-2-3s-basic-balance-charger.html

How do you get 2 motors to work with the controller. Would you have to push the stick diagonally to go forwards with each motor as they’re on 2 different channels? I was originally thinking I’d have to have one motor for each stick, but only stick returns to the neutral position on a transmitter.
