Building a wooden gate can finish off a fence nicely. Building a gate can also give you a bit of added privacy around the house - plus, it’s great for keeping the kids and the dog from running around the neighborhood. Follow this step-by-step guide and see how easy it is to build a nice and sturdy wooden gate yourself. It won’t take you long, and it won’t cost the earth.

Kia Ora. Despite the strong accent, the instructions are just perfect. The best and clearest set of instructions ever. None of the usual waffle from other presenters. I would not mind being your apprentice. I think I will die a frustrated Carpenter. Just born too early to get benefits of KZbin videos. Still, will continue learning and trying any woodworking projects need doing. Thank you

These videos are great. I been working in construction all my life but not Carpentry, so seeing the finer details of how to build things on these is great.I'm an old dog (65) learning new tricks. Built a Deck, Pergola with a Roof and 3 Gates and 4 Raised Gardens so far from watching these videos. Thanks M10.

Very professionally done. My hat off to you sir. Luckily I have a radial saw so all I have to do is lower the blade to make the knotches. Other than that well done. Oh and I like the glue you were using, but personally I just use carpenters glue. Seems to work just fine and no need to buy another glue. The sealant brushed on keeps the wood from ageing and keeps costs down.

On the other hand 3"x2" is easier to say than 75mm x 50mm. We tend to switch between imperial and metric in the UK as our parents all use imperial and we were taught to use metric at school.

The square drive screw is amazing. Phillips screws cam out too easy and torx screws don’t sit on the bit well enough for awkward work. Square drive FTW! I’m used to using both measurement systems because of the military. Like the base 10 of metric for easy math; however, prefer SAE for things like fuel and fuel mileage. Because It’s easier to figure out range based on MPG than Liters per 100k. 🤷🏻‍♂️ they both work

What about when the kiln dried wood gets wet and expands. You’ll lose the gap especially where the latch is and the gate will jam. Shouldn’t you allow a little more space for that? Otherwise you’ll have to re-hang the gate and chisel in the hinges which is a pain.
