I built this edge grain plywood coffee table for my living room, and I'm so excited about how it turned out! It's amazing how pretty the edge of plywood can be when used in an intentional way.
This build was very time-consuming, but it wasn't difficult at all. If you have lots of patience and an intermediate building skill level (or at least some comfort level with power tools), you should be able to whip this out without any problems at all.

great, but I was nervous watching you cross your left arm over at the mitre saw when the blade was still running e.g from 0:55 please take safety seriously around these tools. You're wearing long sleeves, it's so easy for the blade to catch them and pull your arm into the saw. Other than that, it's a beautiful table, well done. Would you mind sharing the thickness of the plywood you bought?

It is beautiful. Thank you for uploading and sharing. (to reduce the fluffly bits on the plywood, the tear out, use a sacrificial fence, it will help).

You made me a bit nervous with the mitre saw, fingers and spinning blades and all that. Suggestion for the wood filler. water it down into a runny paste and quite literally poor it on. Let dry and then sand. Works really well. Beautifully finished product

Nice job, I did the same as you but I nailed each piece down to a flat board and got off track some how and had to pull it all up and start over, I’ll never make another one ha ha

Do you have to pin or nail each piece. Would glue hold on it's own?

How has that floor poly held up on the table? Did it yellow at all?

I can't get over how STUNNING this is! Who (except you!) knew that plywood could be so BEAUTIFUL!? Thank you so much for sharing your process and for including all the issues, tips and tricks you experienced along the way. I've been wanting to make a coffee table for a long time but didn't know what kind I wanted--until NOW. Thank you for giving me the confidence to believe I can make one of these myself. YOU ARE AWESOME!

You can totally do it! The most important thing you need for this coffee table is patience. :-D If you have that, you're set!

Hi Kristi, could you once more explain how you finished the top? I too would like to finish it in a way that it maintains the whitish maple color. Normal finish makes it too yellow! :) Thanks for your advice.

Put it together clamp it and then sand it with an orbital.

Also, if you saved the sawdust from the rough sanding and then coated the top with glue and sawdust, would it fill in those flaws without using wood filler? I have seen this on other channels and wonder if it really works.
@KristiLinauer
@KristiLinauer 4 жыл бұрын
I've seen people do that, but it seems like an awful lot of work. Wood filler is so much easier. Plus, wood filler is so much easier to sand than wood glue.

Beautiful!! How did you think of the design for this? Was it based on something you saw? It is lovely!
