In NatDex I find Obstagoon to be an amazing stallbreaker. He gets access to Taunt and with STAB Tera normal Facade you can usually nuke anything that doesn't resist or is immune to normal type attacks. Plus he's the only Guts mon with access to Switcheroo and Trick which means against Stall teams he can steal Leftovers from them and give them the Flame Orb which if they're a physical attacking Stall mon like Clodsire it'll be incredibly detrimental to them.

As someone trying to find success with Tyranitar + Hatterene-two of my favorite 'mons-this gen, seeing this helped give some clarity to my teambuilding. Two moments, I recall going into 100+ turns against and stall team double-switching or throwing out predicts. My team had three pivots with the sixth member kind of a random pick (I have an extremely terrible track record with not being able to decide on a sixth team member). I use Assault Vest Tyranitar to take on Tera Grass Iron Moth and soft check Gholdengo to enable Banded Rillaboom - my team's priority cleaner. Corviknight and FakeTurn Sneasler comprise the three-man pivot core, meaning the only thing I was missing was a hazards setter that could pair well with Corviknight, so I shuffled between Lando-T, Gliscor, and Great Tusk. Needless to say, especially after watching this, I need to rethink my teambuilding strategy. I'm also nervous about trading Assault Vest for Choice Band on Tyranitar, but I'm not unfamiliar with how hard he hits with it, especially now that he FINALLY gets Knock Off. I've beaten Blissey with Hatterene by feigning the absence of Psyshock until about 3-4 CM boosts in, so unless they're aware of which Psychic-type move she's using, keeping Psyshock in place of Stored Power can surprise them, especially if another has already Tera'd.
@pinkacross2042 Жыл бұрын
I would advise against using Tyranitar as a Gholdengo answer, soft or not. Still though, CB Tyranitar certainly CAN work. Try to pair it with something that brings in pokemon that are weak on the physical side, like a U-turn Zapdos, a Volt Switch Rotom-Wash, or a Flip Turn Walking Wake.

If I learned anything from national dex ag it's that the best stallbreaker is sticky hold leppa recycle trubbish, ony way to beat assist cats. Granted it is a little bit of a niche option Tbh I see a lot of players put way too much focus on unwallable mons without thinking too much of how the team works, if you're a clever stall players and you're facing semi stall with a conk or smt you can usually maneuver to have a midground in at all times. As tempting as instant beat all fixes like this are it's always better imo to think about stuff like how to draw out certain mons, what mon can they afford to have on the field the most, how are they allocating pp, which behaviours am I forcing to actually get my mons in Slowking is great because it allows you to have a mon unthreatened by stall, but other mons like clef or gliscor also do that and can serve as a reset or a way to draw predictable behaviour My favorite way to beat bulky team by far has always been to stack threats with similar counters or that have offensive redundancy, because it means that on that specific point you've allocated more offensive resources that they can afford to allocate defensively without compromising other matchups Also getting your ditto knocked off should work as well for infinite pp. And I've never tried tera normal facade gliscor but I can't foresee it being bad either Great video

While these are all good Pokemon that attack Stall well, I think what will help with video topics like these is providing examples of abilities and specific moves that allow excellent stallbreaking roles. Honestly breloom has been absolutely insane against stall for me. You see those mons at the start of the vid? None of them can switch into CB loom safely. Lots of normals, steels, and waters on stall, and even the mons neutral to it still can't hard switch into the raw power- corv is 2HKOed by close combat, 5 hit bullet seed OHKOs clef and even has a chance to OHKO pex and gliscor with 5 hits, so they really can't hard switch in because you're pretty likely to get at least 5 hits total, clod gets shredded too, and even if they run something good against breloom like glowking, bulldoze shuts that down too- the only thing that can really switch into breloom safely is amoonguss, but you can wear that down a lot with smart double switching. Breloom isn't just a stallbreaker too- mach punch lets it not only force switches against more frail offensive mons like cinderace, greninja, and ogerpon so that it can take risks and punish those switch-ins, or just go for the safer play if you really need a revenge killer (on that note, if your opponent has already used their tera on something else, breloom is a 100% surefire answer to kingambit no matter how many boosts they have or whatever sucker punch mindagmes they wanna pull). It also is an excellent late game cleaner with tera fighting mach punch to get rid of weakened opponents. It beats offense, it beats balance, it beats stall, breloom is way too good to be UU imo. (Trust me I have no bias whatsoever)

@@pinkacross2042 As a certified breloom expert, breloom is slow and frail but is quite possibly the best pokemon in the game at forcing switches and then taking advantage of said switches. While the initial appeal of breloom would be spore, which stops the opponent from moving for the next 1-3 turns (note that the sleep counter increases when that pokemon attempts to use a move and not at the end of the turn), I personally find that the sheer damage output of choice band is more valuable than something like sash spore on all but the most aggressive of teams. Now, spore does still have some use on choice band sets (especially if you don't have as much trouble with gholdengo), but in general, you wanna run mach punch, bullet seed, close combat, and then usually bulldoze in the last slot to hit stuff like gholdengo, but you can also run rock tomb for enamorus, fire punch for amoonguss, or even spore just as a general "idk what they're gonna switch into but it's not something immune to spore and nothing in the game likes being put to sleep". As for EV spreads, I don't really see merit to any bulk investment unless you're running poison heal, so just max attack max speed, though the nature is an interesting debate. Adamant is generally preferred to jolly due to hitting better damage thresholds like cc OHKOing wake and 2HKOing max phydef corv, but jolly can hit a few important speed targets like non-speedboost valiant after a bulldoze drop. As for tera type, I generally prefer fighting to increase your revenge killing power with mach punch, in addition to the fact that the weaknesses from your grass typing tend to come up more often than those from your fighting typing (though that's a bit less true now that you don't need to tera fighting in order to live a +1 or +2 ice shard from bax), but tera grass is also an option to live a fairy or psychic attack if needed. As for teammates, you generally want some good pivots to be able to bring in breloom safely- my personal favorite being spdef rotom-wash, but pult and cinderace are also good. Hazards are also great due to how many switches you force simply by being on the field. It also enjoys a good mid-game sweeper to punch holes in a team- in fact other fighting types are good for this so that you can lure in and wear down the things that wall breloom (my personal choice for this role is sneasler, though valiant is probably better for this role even if it tends to be more late-game) so that you have a wounded team that can be cleaned up with mach punch. Speaking of mach punch: you really need something to deal with the tier's prominent ghost types (pult and ghold) or you're not gonna be able to chip them down every time you get an opportunity to revenge kill. I personally don't use gambit because I think it's unethical, but overall I'd say a good core is loom, sneasler, gambit, rotom-w, gliscor, and then probably either amoonguss or bulky cinderace in the last slot to deal with opposing gambit via status after it teras. I'll whip up a pokepaste in just a sec.

A stallbreaker I saw mentioned recently that I've been thinking about is Analytic Magnezone; a lot of Pokemon on Gen 9 Stall are Water or Flying so Analytic Volt Switch deals a *ton* of damage and sets up 2HKOs on a lot of the team, if not being able to OHKO itself with Thunderbolt or Flash Cannon. The calcs work out in its favor but I can't help but think "This thing probably gets chipped out super easy" and it does not fare well into Ground types but hopefully Gliscor won't be a problem for much longer.

No mention of sub users? Breaking sub can be a pain for stall teams. Trick Scarf Gholdengo is also a major pain for stall. Trick scarf in general is, it essentially removes one mon from play vs a stall team. Also Gliscor is a funny mon that is useful both on and against stall due to it being THE status + knock absorber compressed into one mon that can also knock opposing mons. Its actually kinda ridiculous the amount of role compression it has. There's a lot of stuff stacking against stall this gen imo. The reason its not less played is because this gen HO is extremely prevalent, and stall exploits poorly constructed/played HO teams very nicely. Like imagine if ape were still unbanned, that thing was around natdex for a while and it was basically an auto-lose if you were running stall.

Another tactic that I didn't hear you mention was Encore (similar to Taunt.) It shuts down Dondozo, Garg, Blissey, Clefable, and Alomomola, protect scouting, etc., and allows you to set up or chip down, depending on the circumstances.
@pinkacross2042 Жыл бұрын
Encore isn't nearly as effective as Taunt since Stall can typically switch without much issue (it's the playstyle that's least bothered by switching), but in the right situations Encore can be a helpful tool.

@pinkacross2042 I've seen both Blim and Blunder use it to great effect against stall. Like a complete dismantling. Encore definitely has merit.
@pinkacross2042 Жыл бұрын
@@pokelee Usually Blim and Blunder play in quite low ladder and the stall players do a poor job of navigating around Encore. You are correct that it can be a good tool, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it extremely "anti-stall." The right sets using Encore certainly can threaten stall though, notably Encore Knock Off Ogerpon-Wellspring.

@pinkacross2042 Okay dude, I can't continue. Blim does *not* play low ladder, he generally plays 1800‐1900s, sometimes he may play mid-ladder, but more often than not he plays up high or even at the very top. Blunder dicks around in the low ladder, but the instance I was talking about was probably around 1700s. I don't want you to think that I think Encore is the ultimate strat, no, it's not even my strategy of choice. I was just saying that I've seen it be very effective, and it's worth mentioning. You are super disrespectful, particularly to Blim. Either that, or you've never watched him and you're BSing. Either way, I gotta go. ✌️

@@pokelee I did not intend to be argumentative and I had no idea that you were growing angry as we discussed encore. I was under the impression that you were leaving a comment here to discuss. I simply didn't want to give the perception that Encore would ruin stall, since Stall does have some decent tools against it. It's been a while since I've seen a video from Blim or Blunder, last I saw they were in mid ladder. When I said "quite low ladder" I was talking about low ladder FOR stall, since often top level stall is often 1900+ or so. It was not an insult to either of them (both are talented players but often mid and lower ladder makes for better content), simply saying that anecdotal evidence doesn't indicate what works well against stall as a whole. Please refrain from making judgments about my character.

Does this apply for NatDex OU as well?
@pinkacross2042 Жыл бұрын
NatDex is a different metagame and I'm not sure what Stall looks like there, but the principles in the video can certainly be applied. In particular, I'm sure natdex has plenty of unwallable breakers in the lower tiers.

How to defeat a stall team 101: - Pick Gholdengo; - EV it to make a bulky variant; - Give it Nasty Plot, Psyshock and its STABs; - Tera Flying to completely wall Gliscor and Clodsire; - Nasty Plot up and spam moves; - 6-0 the opponent;
