It's not softlock it just seems the hitbox for the catalyst is some in-between the 'Cancel' and 'Upgrade' buttons. You will probably noticed the small interfaces will come up large then adjust to ratio.

I have a question: how do you know what fighters to pick for certain nodes? I know I have to read the modifiers, but I still get confused and often pick characters that have a high power level for the sake of having a strong team.

Look at the nodes modifiers and your characters abilities, I’ll go with a classic, there is a modifier called reactive Armor, that makes it so when gettting hit you gain Armor, if you hit a fighter like heavy metal or resident evil on that node their character abilities makes them stronger when benefiting from Armor, so having them in the reactive Armor nodes grants them easier access to Armor, which is obviously a good thing

[WW] Kurøma glad i could help,(EDIT:THIS IS VERY LONG SO TAKE YOUR TIME READING IT)as for less obvious ones, I’ll give you the one that comes to mind first(you may not have the fighters but if you do they work VERY well) firstly, there’s scratching post with meow and furever, combine it with claw and order on a double node and put light weight/ scratching post catalysts on it, what that does is makes it so unless they’re using an eliza they can’t attack you for about 10-30 seconds at the start of the match, and scratching post makes it so you can’t block against the meow either,so if you block you’ll get stunned and they’ll kill you,so that obviously works very well, but aside from that here’s my personal favorite combo, get a double node, then have Xeno in first with the corrosive element catalyst, then behind the xeno put assassin greed, equip her with either megalixir or last words catalyst, the only real counter to this would be to either tag out the xeno then kill the assassin first, but that’s very tough in itself, or to kill them xeno when benefiting from immunity, if you don’t you’ll have to fight an assassin greed while suffering from 3 stacks of permanent bleed, and assassin regends while your near her if you’d suffering from bleed, and that’s incredibly tough to deal with, near impossible actually. Hopefully that helps, I apologize for the SUPER long post, I’d give more examples but I’m a bit lazy and not to many unobvious ones come to mind, but big band+futile catalyst or painwheel +don’t poke the buer catalyst works incredibly well
