Why not just do radius bends on inside and outside instead of using turning vanes?

Radius fittings require different tooling than what we have. The best we would be able to do is make like a 45 flat on the fitting, which adds complexity, so we just build them square, and where we need best air flow we add turning vanes.

Actually the square elbow the young man built with the turning vanes has a better equiv. Ft. value that a standard round heel round throat elbow without vanes. Adding the turning vanes makes a huge difference

@@Jon-hx7pe when you add a elbow or any duct fitting in your ductwork you absolutely have to consider the equivalent ft in your design calculation. So including those turning vanes is considered good sheet metal practice. It would have to be gigantic lint to plug up a duct elbow. Static pressure, equivalent ft and aspect ratio take precedent over lint.
