If anybody has problems with corners sticking out, do this but use the lines that are on the sides of the rail and put one pillar every 5 lines and then use half foundations instead

Didn't know the pillars would snap to the rail, thats clever
@matt69nice2 ай бұрын
1:40 The reason it doesn't quite align is because the curve shape is different if you build the curve between a fixed start and end point vs if you build it freeform (i.e. fixed starting point and don't connect it to another track piece). Interesting quirk. Issue is that the curve is smoother (closer to a perfect circle) if you draw freeform than it is if you draw it between two fixed points. You'll see this if you try to build a roundabout (circle); the last piece you place will be a weird shape. So if you're using this technique you should try to do it as you're building the track out instead of waiting until you have two fixed points the curve has to fit between.

I've always gone the other way. Built a roadbed using foundations, and techniques for making smooth curves on roads. Then aligned the rail with the roadbed. It's interesting seeing an approach that goes the other way. Certainly the method you're outlining here is a *lot* faster, though I think there's considerable overlap between foundations. I don't know that there's any clean solution to ramps, just because rails bend vertically in ways foundations can't easily match. I go with the rail leaving the foundation bed for short distances.

Holy shit, this is even more huge for a completely different purpose! I was making road network and I want some specific angle, a sharp angles is too much and a small angle is hard to make. I did make an blueprints, but then there was never enough of them for all different cases. The other issue if I want to merge two platforms. While there are ways with pillars to put them in free style mode and place whenever you want, they still make from 2 planar sides one that have some diagonal cut, but the transition is still someone sharp, I wasn't able to make anything that have spline with custom curves. With this I can place rails with some padding from side on both left and right side of platforms I want to merge, did this trick to fill the side with foundations and fill rest with a regular foundations. And I think with this method I can create any custom angle whatever I need and it quite fast to place. I may also use this as a guides for blueprints. If I make 1x1 blueprint as a guide and place it in this curve, then use an actual blueprint and snap it on 1x1 blueprint guide, then I will have blueprints merged at a custom angles as well! I do need to test it tho, but it have so much potential!
