Have termite damage on 11' section of overhead garage door wall, this gives me ideas. May lose 1 1/2" of depth but a pittance for a secure wall.

The question all DIY people have is what size opening to frame for and finish for. IOW, what are the actual size of the panels and are all mfgrs standard there? Does a 9 ft door give you 9 ft of finished opening or something less? How much head room is needed above the opening for standard hdwr and what can you get away with using low clearance tracks?

The sheathing must be flush with the outside of the foundation. That takes up 4" and the 2x6 brings the woodwork flush with the inside edge of the foundation. The Spruce jam (I use resawn Spruce) is then flush with the inside an outside foundation edges, and runs from the floor to the underside of the header. The center point and right and left side 2x6s all should be the thickness of the foundation wall. Some builder finish the interior face with 1/2" CDX or drywall. Add that thickness if you do.

I noticed, non-treated studs against the concrete, possibly a cripple stud? Some leave a 1/4" to 1/8" and fill it with foam or silicone to prevent rot.

This video was great, but I wish you had added the rough opening size. Most manufacturers say 3"s wider and 1.5"s taller than the door, and the doors are sized at what they say such as 8 x 7, which makes our opening 8' 3" x 7' 1.5". I find that height is good but it's a hair too wide and you then have to build out that frame on the exterior so that the gaskets seal properly. I've done 1 garage door in my life, last night, and that was the only information I couldn't find anywhere, other than that it was a piece of cake. The opening can't be too small or the wheels will bind, but it shouldn't be so wide that the exterior has to be built out for the gasket to work, there must be a happy medium...
