another lesson i learned from islam is his emotional intelligence. he never reacts. he always keeps his calm demeanor even in under pressure. remember when dustin poirier was shouting at him at the cage, hyping him up because he was able to punch islam, defended his takedowns, and elbowed him? he remained calm and composed - poker face, not letting dustin know his emotions so he cannot use those against him.

Islam (and Khabib) exudes sincerity. More so Islam to this day imo bec you can still sense his awkwardness at certain points under the spotlight unlike Khabib who have embraced it completely. In the cage he's generally controlled but off it you can just see him being himself. His expressions especially when he isn't speaking is always interesting. He has thin filter.. like a kid sometimes. His bewildered face when he's confused; he smirks when he's amused (especially on something disagreeable); the way he tensed up & raised his hand at Dustin's use of words that offended him or like when his expression softened when he told DC 'I care about you' after his merciless teasing. Lol too funny sometimes. I watch a lot of UFC Eurasia, he comes across the same using his own language, just as sincere and has quick wit (smartass moments) & deep insight actually. I think their sincerity is a result of growing up having a simple dedicated life and being secure w/ who they are. The fond way he talks about his life, home and family.. even if they didn't have it easy, you can hear the pride he holds for where he comes from. I believe he wont't be as visible in public like Khabib is, once he retires frm fighting.. so I hope people appreciate him while he's still competing.
