Two absolute linear classics - RLK and KRL, to demonstrate the 2 practice methods that facilitate us building speed and accuracy with this type of fill.
1. SLOW AND STEADY - so important to let our nervous system “see” the movement involved and for myelination ( • Myelination: How and W... ) to occur.
2. SLOW-FAST-SLOW - where “fast” is our current improvement zone - the tempo at which we can still just about play it accurately but we’re feeling challenged, and our tension level has gone up a little.
I’m playing the fills as sextuplets here - six hits per beat, so “RLKRLK” or “KRLKRL” on each beat.
Have fun and please let me know if any questions,
Mike

hi was wondering if that can be classed as a tripplet aswell
@MikeBarnesDrums
@MikeBarnesDrums Жыл бұрын
@@paitonmckay8843 These patterns are three notes long, so could absolutely be played as triplets - but also could be used in any other note value too. The length of the sticking phrase does not have to be the same length as the rhythm phrase/note value. Cheers!

That’s a great lesson and a very good teaching technique, Mike. That whole bit about getting into the tension zone is exactly right. It is precisely this for everything in drumming, or any musical instrument. I remember many years ago struggling with my triplets before I knew about the tension zone. It was when I started using a metronome with this exercise as a metric that I yielded monumental instantaneous results within just days! It’s great that you so strongly stressed the tension zone. Your students would be well advised to heed this advice, and they will yield immediate success and quickly be able to get up to the speed you were playing at 6:45 in this video, which looked like about 210 bpm.👍

I love this linear fill, you make it look so easy, I've been learning for 2 years and I am still working on my speed technique. I have just passed my debut rsl with a distinction and I have been watching all of your trinity grade 1 videos and they are great to follow when I'm struggling reading the notes, you make it so entertaining and fun to learn and it also keeps me captivated as there are some boring videos on youtube. 👍

Hi Mike, it´s brilliant as most of your presantations. Thanks for them all. But, but, but are’nt the two? Methods RLK and KRL not just one? at least. If I go right left kick faster and change into kick right left don‘t I get a sequence of RLKRL so that a fast move of RLK is nothing else but the same, a kind of circle?

Thanks for watching! I mean, I suppose so - in the same way that RLRL and LRLR are the same thing, just starting in a different place! Cheers. More linear phrases for you here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2fWd3ioqrGCgacfeature=shared
