My oldest student was 84 when he started, still playing at 90. Both of you are no age! In any case, age in itself is simply and emphatically NOT the variable of success - application, effort and willingness to do the work and the most important factors by far influencing success/happiness in this game (and most other games too IMO). Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

One if my favourite is just 2 crotchet beats on the snare- not a flam, and it comes after beat four in between the next bar sort of. I don’t know how to say it but I hope you know what I mean
@SuzanneVictoria423 жыл бұрын
I think I know what you mean (although I think it would be 2 semiquavers on + a) I am also a fan of the really short drum fill. It sounds cool.
@MikeBarnesDrums3 жыл бұрын
Cool, yep can't be crotchets - could be semi-quavers or perhaps the last two of a set of eighth note triplets. Cheers!

Great vid, funny you mention the snare and crash, I’ve found over the last year or so that I go into almost every drum fill with a snare and crash, I find that crash & snare accent always brings the fill to life just before it happens, hard thing to explain but I’ve found I do it all the time now! Oh and I’ve found using fills which actually include the hi-hat can be really good when used in the right song, I used one all the way through the cover of Ordinary World by Duran Duran and it fits the song beautifully! 🎵🎶👍

Mike, thank you for this video. It’s really encouraging for beginners/intermediates like myself. It shows that simple fills can be very effective and fit in well with the music. Talking of which, is that mellow funk backing track available to channel members? Thanks again.

Muito bom! 🤟 No quarto tempo do quarto compasso vc faz uma virada diferente, no começo tem que ficar contando os tempos e os compassos e depois fica automático essa contagem?
@MikeBarnesDrums2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’d say when beginning it’s a good idea to count the beats, then as you say it becomes automatic soon enough with repetition. Thanks for watching :)
@1atimen2 жыл бұрын
@peteskyrunner48452 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of the words containing the relevant syllables. So you could have motorbike blackcurrant on beat three, would that work? That's a good way to remember them. You just got a new subscriber :-)

Great stuff as always. Here's a problem I have. I'll try starting slow but for some reason my beat keeps getting faster and faster. As a beginner that's not helping me. Then I start getting nervous and tensing up which isn't a good thing. Why does my body automatically start speeding up?

Do you want me to only practise fills after 4(?)bars? or is OK to practice fills on EVERY 4th beat? IS that a bad habit to get into? Then possibly difficult to get out of?.. You want me playing the groove rock steady as priority and too many fills might throw me off the pulse?!
