Hello David, well I didn't get totally finished but close. Made a few mistakes but its fine. I mentioned that I had some extra 18x24 cedar blocks about 2 inches thick. Not the easiest to work with but for the first one it's ok. Didn't have my air gun so had to use wood screws, predrilled the holes for the back straps and pushed a little to much on a few that went through. Just sanded them down and will touch up. Tomorrow I will start the stars using the dremel. Bought the extended wand but I think I will use just the attachments I have. As I mentioned I didn't burn ghe wood but used a solid paint, water based. The cedar makes it pretty heavy so I have to see how bride wants to hand it or just lean it against the wall or fireplace. After 50 years I finally understand it's up to her!😊

Ahhhmazing!!!! Ive watched this many times!!! You are so thorough and your flags are stunning!! Ive been wanting to surprise my husband with one of these. His love of the military runs deep and after recently meeting his only blood family, other than our four sons and myself he learned his grandfather served in Vietnam. I now want to make a few to my first family reunion ever. Now its my turn to meet my blood relatives. Apparently they served in all branches. I was told they go back as far as the early 1800s. I am so excited! I can't wait to jump on this project. Thank you for being so thorough and thank you for showing us these amazing flags

Good job! That's pretty much been my method for the few I've made ... down to the razor blade masking. One difference is I like to hit the stars lightly with the torch after carving to make them match the stripes a bit. (Have to be careful though - the heat can bubble the stain if you hang too long. lol) Thanks for sharing.

Hello again David. Just about finished my first one and had a couple hick-ups butcher better now. Like I mentioned I tried using cedar but the edges didn't come out very smooth and after I stapled the supports in the back I didn't like it so I took it apart and started over, I found the backside of the stripes were much smoother and more square. Much better. I see that you and others use plastic templates, I ordered metal ones, 3 sizes from Amazon, and I have been practicing using the dremel and # 106 to cut out the stars. Hopefully tomorrow I will cut the stars. One thing I wanted to say was when I used the razor blades I had a tough time holding them and hammering them in due to arthritis in my fingers. I put the metal template down, taped it in place and ran the 106 along the side, just barely, and was able to secure the blades. It's really a great idea to keep the stain or paint t from overlapping. I would love to see any videos on you making crosses. Thanks again, Robert

Aloha. If you mean precoating before assembly,all sides, i guess its because i carve stars after its put together, that way the stars and all are coated. Very nicely done! A quick point of correction, your small flag on the wall is hung incorrectly, the stars on the American flag should always be on the right...

Oh man. Next video it will be right thank you very much. And thank you for watchin. 👍🇺🇸

@@davidvasher6752 I should have said the stars on the left, but thanks for fixing!

@@terrancetenley2786 I was firing up the reply button but you corrected yourself lol! Thank you! A lot of people don't know the stars go in the upper left when hanging both vertically and horizontally.

Not true ,when flag is displayed on wall,whether it's hung verticaly or horizontal the stars should always be on the upper left to the viewer

Love your video, have you ever thought of using a CNC bit in a router to do the stars. Please take a look at fishtank5050 on KZbin he doesn't use any fancy power tools, he works out of his tiny garden shed he's very good at explaining the making process just like yourself.

Just so you know some of us need detailed information. I think he did a fabulous job of explaining step by step
@robertm3482 жыл бұрын
@@southernbelle4266Belle I agree, but he takes far too long to explain each step. Detailed information is essential, and I am not saying he is not doing that, but he is not an accomplished, effective speaker if it takes him more than twenty minutes to explain his process. I hope he will learn to make his videos half of what they are currently. Scripting and preplanning are essential or you lose your audience. I like him and want to continue to learn from him instead of having a nap while he drags out information and repeats ad nauseum!

He put this out there for our benefit and you insult him…..feel good about that? Great project and great video!! Don’t listen to Robert, if it was raining silver dollars he would bitch about having to bend over and pick them up!
