My dad has a '66 that he bought from a painter in 1973, and I more or less grew up in it. That included drawing dozens and dozens of pictures of it, and painting a couple. For years I was looking for a model of a '64-66 Suburban (or Carryall as we called them), but could never find one. I DID scratch-build a 1/8-scale model of my dad's truck and give it to him for Father's Day one year, and four years ago I carved an HO-scale model of it out of wood to go in my model railroad layout. So when I saw THIS model, there was no question I would get it. I painted it with metal-flake dark green Testors paint, almost exactly the color of my dad's truck, and it looks just like it -- aside from the style of the rear doors and the wheels.

Nice Job . I just purchased this kit and would like to build it as a panel truck (no body side windows ) I plan to make the inserts out of styrene what type of filler would you recommend to fill in the gaps ?
@RightOnReplicas4 жыл бұрын
JL, If you apply the styrene panels from the outside you can use any good quality filler for the edges. Tamiya putty or 3M glazing compound for example. If you cover them from the inside you'll need a two part filler like Milliput or Bondo fiberglass filler to shape the outside panels! -Doug

Where can I get one? I have a 65 Suburban that I am restoring in memory of my dad. I am 3rd owner, and it was one of the first off the line. Number is in the 1700's. Is there a way of making the rear doors into the clamshell tailgate style?
@RightOnReplicas7 жыл бұрын
Paul - It could be done by cutting the doors in half longitudinally and gluing them together then filling the seems and moving the hinges. Then you could cut the separated windows out and re-trim with evergreen half round and use some acetate to replace the full window. -Doug

Hey, I'm possibly going to get the suburban... I was planning on painting the grille, and bumpers white. Should I bleach it or just paint over the chrome??
@RightOnReplicas7 жыл бұрын
JR, if you paint over the chrome it may not cover and if it does it will chip off with any touch. Use some Easy Off (yellow can) in a closed jar and let it set for an hour. It should be ready to rinse dry and paint then! -Doug
