@@freman75 Because he's John effing Danaher. I guess it just depends on who you like more as a communicator (though I think GR almost talks like Danaher when teaching), the section of rolling in GR DVDs, and the price. I think they have basically the same systems, so what they teach would be pretty similar. Maybe the organization in the DVDs is also different: Danaher explain the submissions in EtS, not in his GFF, and GR probably explains them in his guard and top pins DVDs. But I would get both if I had the money

If half guard is the only position where the bottom guy can impose engagement why do so many mma coaches teach half guard for g+p.
@ddg-fi5bp3 жыл бұрын
Same thing can be good for top half or bottom half depending on certain parameters
@callumthejudo6963 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Onymous I agree with that but I feel for eg stepping into a half guard from side like so many do when looking to g+p is giving the guy on bottom an opportunity that he didn't have to begin with.
@shaunedwards53563 жыл бұрын
Cause you can lock onto their leg with your legs for control while throwing punches. Side control you need tohave more of a body lock or cross face to pin them so it’s harder to get leverage in punches
@jdriscoll50833 жыл бұрын
@@callumthejudo696 it’s a good point/question. My guess is that the top guy has studied his opponent enough to know whether he poses any real danger from half guard or not. Also by that point in the fight, you’ve felt him out enough to gauge his grappling skills. For example, if you’re against someone like Garry Tonon or Charles Oliveira and you have side control, moving to top half probably wouldn’t be the best option. But against more of a striker with very little BJJ training like a Justin Gaethje, the top half guard may be the more effective position so that you can lock up that bottom leg and limit his movement while landing shots. Idk why, but so many mma guys even at the UFC level have shit Jiu jitsu for the level they’re at. It would behoove them all to go out and buy every John Danaher instructional and drill the fuck out of the techniques.
