Great video! I got a good tip from a viewer on my channel to pull up my long sleeve when using the table saw. Safety first!

This might be a stupid question but for the piece attached to the lid, is that the cut off from the side you only did one dado in or is it cut separately?
@JDCDDesgins5 жыл бұрын
I originally planned to make this lid from a solid piece of oak. But I was short on time so I used 1/4" ply with a oak veneer on it.

Yes Lauren it's better to use the cut off than try to fit a new cut piece for the top edge.

What are the dimensions of the box
@williamhdixon2 жыл бұрын
I need to make three boxes, but they are rather larger, although shallow. All three will be approximately 14" x 18". Two will be 3" high, one will be 5" high. Would you expect this technique to work satisfactory on boxes of that size?

Nice! Good work! What stain or finish did you use??
@JDCDDesgins5 жыл бұрын
I use the Minwax wipe on polyurethane finish. I loaded it in my spray gun to apply it quicker.

How easy does the top slide in and out? Is there anything you did to make it a more smooth slide?
@JDCDDesgins4 жыл бұрын
it slides very well. You can rub some wax on the lid section and this will make it slide even better in that groove!

Im so confused and idk why. But with the opening lid the box end was the same size wood as the oposite end you cut the little section off but the cut off bit still made it even when closed im confused cause when cuting the end piece u lpse the thickness of the blade? What am i missing that im bot thinking of. Hopefully u understand
@edwardzurick26189 ай бұрын
I had the same confusion. I did not see how the sliding edge was attached or how you knew to measure it for it to be flush when closed. The video was great except for that. After the glue up and strap, the video jumps right to pulling our the slide WITH the edge attached. No clue how you made that to be precise.

Nice video, good work, and I love that silicone finger thing for your table saw I haven't seen one of those before. I am interested in finding a box maker for sporadic orders as display boxes. So if you are interested, where are you based? Can you work with paulwina wood or bamboo or at a stretch balsa. Aiming for bamboo or paulwina for sustainable reasons. Rough size on all boxes will be 8"x8"x7"H I would love two faces to be removable if possible, the top, and one front facing edge so that my product can be slid out onto a surface. The front face could be hinged but I would prefer a slotted system if you can design one. Ideally I will probably have more us customers than European or uk etc, so for me it would be perfect to send my product to you for you to send on so I can use you as my gift wrapper almost. In a perfect world you would also custom cut some foam inserts to pad my sculptures. The reason I would need two open faces is because my sculptures are heavy and require deep access two hand grips to remove.
