Let me put this fat loss idea straight: 1. Fidgeting: Slow, constant movement burns energy and can reduce fat gain, but its effect is minimal unless you're doing it all day long. 2. Insulin and Fructose: High insulin spikes from fructose (found in sugar, wheat, drinks) lead to fat gain if there’s a calorie surplus. The daily limit is 6 teaspoons-anything beyond that becomes toxic to the liver, like alcohol. The worst culprit is apple juice. Whole fruits are fine occasionally because they support gut bacteria. 3. Stress and Cortisol: Cortisol from stress promotes fat storage in the abdominal and visceral areas, serving as fast energy reserves, like for animals to escape from predators. Worst is internal fat near by organs. 4. Visceral Fat Removal: To get rid of visceral fat, you need HIIT (short, high-intensity heart rate sessions) and a low-insulin diet. For example, 30-second sprints followed by 90 seconds of slower movement. 5. Healthy Fat: Fat stored in the buttock, chest area is healthy and necessary. Conclusion: Losing weight without eating enough (like meat and fat) and not doing HIIT or much walking is counterproductive. You end up losing weight from areas where a healthy person wouldn’t want to.

She probably had hyperthyroidism. Those ppl have a hyper active metabolism.. need to eat constantly bc they burn everything down so quickly. They're usually slim with big eyes and have higher heart rate.

I am that. I eat a lot and I'm thin. The chronometer confirms that I eat a lot, yet I am 65 kg and 185 cm tall. What is characteristic for me is that I am nervous, I constantly fidget, jump with my legs while sitting, some part of my body is constantly in motion. And also, I'm tense, my muscles are tight. In order to increase my body mass, which I did once experimentally, I had to increase my calories to at least 3500kcal... Of course, it is extremely exhausting, and I wish I could eliminate it...

I’d love to eat 3000 cal a day!! 😂 I’m actually working my way up to that, but it’ll take a while. The Ray Peat community says the more calories you can eat and sustain your weight, the better. But anyway, why not do high fat protein sources? 80/20 ground beef, butter, whole milk, cheese, heavy cream, chocolate, yogurt, coconut cream, etc. 😋 If I was eating normal fat animal products instead of low fat ones, I’d probably be around 2200 calories a day, but, I can’t sustain that for now metabolism wise.

Do you take any magnesium to calm your nervous system etc.? I recommend magnesium glycinate form because it is good absorption w/o causing diarrhea. I think this would really help you because most of us (if not all) are low in magnesium. Blood tests do not reflect the cellular levels. Only supplement contraindication is those with kidney failure (kidneys balance magnesium).

@@bartginger123 My diet, according to the chronometer, usually contains over 600 mg of magnesium, over 5 g of potassium, as well as all other vitamins and minerals above the daily recommended doses. The same applies to amino acids, for example, I consume an average of 5-6 g of glycine, etc. (about 1.6 g of protein per kilogram of body weight) ... In addition, I also consume vitamin B complex and 100 mg of magnesium in the form of glycinate, I have no reason to a higher dose. And even when I was taking 400mg, I didn't notice a difference. The keto diet makes a difference for me, but it always destroys my testosterone and libido, regardless of how long I stick to it and how many positive effects it brings me. Last time I kept her for 6 months. I barely recovered my testosterone afterwards. By the way, I also tried keto with 2g of protein per 1kg of body weight, it was even worse. Normally, I'm on about 150g of net carbs and that suits me, it's kind of spontaneous for me, in accordance with the requirements of my apefit. In other words, it is very difficult for me to eat more than that.

I would suggest that fidgters and non-fattening are NOT cause and effect, but both effects of a same cause ... or very closely associated causes ( then fidgeting and not becoming fat is called a spurious [fake] cause -consequence effect, even if statistically significant) .

This was at first triggering. My whole life I was skinny. Someone even asked how? My reply was stress. I was in survival mode my whole life. Shivering freezing. Chihuahua like. Got burnt out and had a longgg period of rest and digest cause I wanted some weight. Now Ive got a bit too much 🙄But the key is find your balance. Be grounded, calm, eliminate stress/drama + stay energized in a good way, stay moving, be excited, find good busy! Relax when needed.

This is some interesting aspect to explain why some people r slim. But it cannot be any advice to loose fat for more calm people: what a stress doing to urself to force small movements all day long...it's not done with 3 x 5 min per day. These slim guys having it in the genes all day long. Installing a kind of nervous behavior cannot be the goal of ur path. Generally moving more is good, adjusting ur food habits, being conscious about what u eat and drink makes a long-lasting difference...

this actually makes so much sense. Before I developed an eating disorder (I'm in recovery now) I had a lot of energy and was a constant fidgetier, I was eating so much food and stayed at a healthy weight. But after I lost so much energy that I had trouble just getting out of bed, I stopped fidgeting, and it never returned as a habit despite physically recovering, and now I burn a lot less calories every day.

I've seen many fidgeters who have some extra weight and they struggle to shed it. Similarly, I've seen many people who are very skinny, eat a lot, they are as slow as a turtle and don't put weight on. I'd be curious to read that study and see how well was conducted.

being in constant motion keeps metabolic rate higher and since they are anaerobic, they burn fat. carbohydrates as energy source does not stay long. as long as they are not replenished, the body will resort to using fat which is more stable and abundant.

Fidgeters are more likely to be in a calorie surplus which is why they have the extra energy to fidget. Once you begin a deficit, the extra movements of fidgeting tend to reside as your body becomes acclimated to the deficit to conserve energy.

That was never true of my 135 lbs husband. He was hyper and fidgety all the time, and didn't eat much. Until I got him to relax and eat larger meals. now he is 160 lbs. I dont let him fidget, I find it distracting and child-like. I bought him his own set of drums, he has taken to it well. plays till he sweats, and still gained weight. finally!

I think this is very logical. It highly suggest people who are operating at an "excited" level burns more energy throughout the day while those who don't "fidget" at operating at a rested state and thus burn less. It seems to imply that one should strive to spend the day at a higher pace than normal, faster walks, brisk movement and of course, to include a lot of activity throughout, at low intensity but prolonged. Couple that with consistent low impact workouts, should mean a very good and sustainable lifestyle at managing weight while getting things done more. What a nice combo. Lets get it, insha ALLAH.

if that were true, than everybody's grandma would be skinny, and all the ones I have ever seen are quite plump and fat, until they reach their 90s, then they shrivel up! I am an avid knitter, and nope. unless one can manage to do it while riding a stationery bike or walk treadmill while knitting, I dont think so!

Because if you eat the extra you burn, you won’t be able to tell the difference. The only way to really tell is to crochet/knit on a diet then just diet without knit/crochet and compare. I guess unconsciousness fidgeting is something that nervous people do. Nervous people do that during every single work they do and this might negatively impact other aspects of their life. But, if we consciously add small movements selectively into our daily life, this can be beneficial, especially small things like frequently standing up and sitting down instead of sitting a long time behind our desks while working. Or we can do daily chores like washing our dishes by hands instead of using machines. In this case, we are burning calories while doing some other tasks that can bring other useful effects.

My understanding is that it seems to suggest that being excitable that translate to physical movements, is a very powerful way of encouraging the body to burn energy because your body anticipated your fidgeting/nervousness into "he/she needs energy. All you have to do is forget snacking, do away with breakfast, and better if you also do away with lunch. After a couple days, you won’t be hungry during the day, and your body will use your fat storage. Better if you’re also active, and the more active the better.

I feed cattle for a living and I’m in northern Montana where we can get temperatures as low as -50. On a normal winter day a cow will need about 30 lbs of hay to maintain while if it’s -30 and windy she will eat more like 40 or 45 pounds, which is all she can manage to consume, and still probably not maintain. It seems to work for me as well. In the winter I can’t seem to get enough carbs but it doesn’t seem to add any fat.

@@RespireOfficial Yes, since I feel, for example, that the energy level in my body increases or is maintained when I (and it feels good), for example, shake my foot, drum with my fingers, and headbanging to music, or generally just shake to nothing, and if i not do this I will get tired! And I also feeling ready for anything, can this be because the increases adrenalin in nevron or is it my Aspergers Syndrom "the blame" (shaking is form sort selv stimulation for these people not only for Aspergers Syndrom but also for ADHD?)? So maybe "Normal" vs neurodevelopmental disorders people react different on this topic? Have a wonderful day!!

This would explain why I know for a fact I eat way more than what the calorie calcs say, but never gain weight. I am fat, though, but I should def be way fatter. And constantly gaining weight.

I had this theory that it was my 'THINKING' that burned all the calories I consumed, since brain is such an energy-hungry organ and I tend to over -think, -analyse, -do etc.. and (this was the crown jewel of my theory) scientists and other occupationally heavy thinkers are skinny people, no? Haha, but nope - it's the jitters! Oh, so good to know that. I probably burned a k knee-jerking through this post 😂

Respectively suggest that merely being moved by a machine does not make your body work more to deal with it. More likely that that a machine that made you work to keep balance would fit the bill. I have bought a £13 wooden wobble board from Amazon to stand on at the bathroom sink while brushing teeth and shaving and then showering. Wonderful! Jim Murray

People who fidget are also probably fighting because of their higher metabolism. Fidgeters tend to be high energy people. Is it possible that it's the other way around? Higher metabolism causes fidgeting?

I hate this information. You hear this advice, but it is more than just extra movement. I had made it a point to take 20-30k steps a day, even in the heat to burn extra calories. My app would say around an extra 500 to 900 calories. You have to have the right body temperature to activate enzymes for all body functions and improve sleep. My watch app would say I burned around 50 calories a mile, when it should be 100. When I did the ride across Iowa, a friend of mine and I never lost any weight. It is so much more than movement. He went on a medication and then the weight fell off. It didn’t work for me. I was overweight in the military, but was so in shape that they would have to give me a perfect score on the fitness test. It was so frustrating for us.

yea i'm positive genetics and things our bodies are not activating for one or more reasons as the culprits. I'm just like you i lost like 30 points in a year just to add it back and it's frustrating. I'm also thinking of going on medication because at this point nothing is working.

Listen Wendy, I don't know your age, but if you are in or close to Menopause, then the only thing that will work for burning off fat and having good body temperature is HRT, and not just estrogen and progesterone, but add in Thyroid hormone as well. Once your hormones leave they never come back. your body cannot burn fat without progesterone which you aren't making if you stopped ovulating, and estrogen lowers blood sugars very well, keeping insulin levels low, which is key for keeping the pounds off. this is the only thing that worked for me.

I am moving my right leg since I remember my self…while seating…sleeping …all the time …and I struggle with weight since I remember my self as well …😂 I do have a lot of stress so definitely my cortisol levels are on fire so this perhaps blocks anything that can help me lose weight ,or my hypothyroidism perhaps ? I actually start gaining weight despite that I am eating healthy Not sure what to do anymore …

One way to trick yourself to burn calories is to walk 3 miles to a store twice a day as to pretend you are going shopping every day for food or essential needs or hang out at the mall for but take no more than 25 bucks so you dont spend too much money, get a hiking buddy or spend most of your dad outdoors walking every where yoy need to go even to get the bus places. In the 90s we constantly moved and was lean. My friend is in his 60s and has been super fit his entire his life and he eats half his meal standing up and never sits down unless it is bed time or he is meditating.

I know someone with Parkinson that has lost a lot of weight because of the shakes/tremors all day. She is also constantly anxious...possibly from soo much adrenaline being released

I would like to know whether this is related more to anxiety than fidgetting per se. I know several people who see themselves as being anxious and who are rake thin no matter what they eat. The fidgetting might be an external display of anxiety.

Your science friend was also burning calories with thinking, and "excessive" thinking most likely "encouraged" the twitching, by that I mean, his brain waves' resonance passed some electricity to his receptors that control his limbs.

I have been like this my whole life and I have been overweight my whole life. I’m a well known fidgeter. I hate to just sit still with good posture. I’m always perching on chairs and changing positions, and getting up quickly. Anyway I guess it never worked for me…
