Fourwheel Trader - Car depreciation analysis

Күн бұрын

In this buying and depreciation guide of the Ford F150 Raptor, I’m showing you the depreciation per year and per 1000 miles driven. Furthermore, I show what the forecasted values and fair purchasing prices are so that you get the best price in the market. Buying a used or new F150 Raptor? This is the video to watch.
You can contact me on fourwheeltrader@gmail.com if you would like a personalized analysis.
The video is structured in a top-down way. That means that we first have a look at the market as a whole and some general price levels for the F150 market. After this, we will dive into the details.
Specifically, this means that the video for the Ford Raptor is split into a few parts. In the first part, we will explore the market and have a look at the average price points. In the second part, we will figure out the depreciation per year and we will split this depreciation curve between the Raptor SVT and the newest generation Raptor. From this, it becomes clear that there’s an initial bottom in the depreciation curve for the SVT. In the third part, we will have a look at the depreciation per 1000 miles driven. The video continues by ranking the F150 Raptor on the depreciation leader board. This shows us that the relative depreciation per year rate is not so bad and that the depreciation per 1000 miles is extremely low. Finally, at the end of the video, I will show you what a fair purchasing price is.

What about a 2020 model Raptor here in the Philippines? Is the same percentage of depreciation applies here? Granted current currency conversion at $1 = 55P. I'm looking to buy around 20,000 km's or less. Should I wait another year to buy for the best deal or what? Thank you.

I'd love an update to this video, because the market for the Raptor went crazy. I bought a 2019 Raptor in April 2020 for $63k with under 10k miles, and that same truck now is selling for over $75k! It's one of the only cars I've seen here in the US that has appreciated (like the GT3, Ferrari 458).

You are cutting edge my man... ur the first to plug in actual data, a thing other car channels don’t have the brainpower and patience to do. Unfortunately, Raptors in California, USA are crazy expensive these days. U can expect to pay around $43k for a ‘13 with 75k miles. 🤦🏻‍♂️

The Ford Raptor is arguably one of the best vehicles when it comes to retaining value even when it's used as a normal vehicle as it's essentially one of the only "exotic" tier cars that is not super skewed when it comes to mileage vs price. Meaning, if you buy smart, you can end up driving a Raptor for very little total out of pocket cost. I bought a 2017 Raptor at the start of the pandemic last year for $47k with 45k miles from a dealer (Loaded 802A crew cab with almost all extras). Fast forward 1 year later and 10k more miles (now at 55k) and I've gotten initial trade in offers for ~$50k from dealers, and could easily sell it private party for $55k (or more if I wanted to wait). Granted, COVID has definitely skewed this a bit, however, as a general rule of thumb, the Raptor is virtually unbeatable when it comes to having a luxury / near "exotic" daily driver that won't depreciate like a ton of bricks when you put mileage on it from normal use. The best way to buy a Raptor is to try to buy below fair market value in the 2-3 model year old range with low to average miles for the model year. You can drive it for ~1-2 years and put on normal mileage and take a negligible depreciation hit, especially if you get lucky on a trade-in and find a dealer willing to pay over for your Raptor and rotate you into another vehicle aging in their inventory plan at below fair market value. You'll be hard pressed to find another vehicle that's on par with the luxury / unique "exotic" like performance the Raptor offers at such high residuals even with added mileage. I'm now trying to figure out what I can trade into in the ~$55k range to realize my appreciation without getting smacked on resale in 1-2 years on the new truck I get into. Been looking into Porsche 2019 Cayenne since can find some in that range and newer body style, but not convinced think they'll hold enough value, so I might have to go with a Mercedes G-Class but would rather something a bit newer or lower mileage. Any suggestions?

If you want to keep some value you can get used Tesla's in that range and should be able to trade out again without much depreciation. Otherwise look for older crew cabs in premium trim levels that have depreciated a lot already. You won't loose much if they are already in the 25k range and you can pocket 25k.

Funny. I traded a 2018 Raptor for my 2015 Cayman S. The Raptor is a great car but got killed on the original owner depreciation. MSRP for my truck was 69k and traded 1.7 years later for 54k. Great truck BTW. I love the Cayman but that truck was awesome. There is no raptor with a 'regular cab'. It is super and crew only. Option packages matter with the 802A being the top package. Sunroof and Raptor tech packages matter as well. 2nd gen truck is much, much better in all aspects.

That's quite a change from a Raptor to a Cayman! What made you decide to go from a truck to something like a Cayman? Thanks btw for pointing out that there are no regular cabs, I will put a note in the video.

@@fourwheeltrader I changed jobs and they provide a company car. The Raptor was too big to fit in the garage and I didn't want it only sitting outside so I got the Cayman. I've always wanted to own a Porsche and was looking at Carerras. I found this Cayman S and the color combination of Carerra White with a Platinum interior was just striking and I decided to get this. The Cayman comfortably fits in the garage with my other flat 6, a 1999 Honda Valkyrie. :)

Love it thank you! Thinking about selling for a 18 Panamera Turbo Wagon. Any chance you could look into tracking the future deprecation since I can’t find any that will dip below $100k :( wondering if they will push and I should wait or should I just go for it

Which year or years is the better purchase. I will be depositing 10.000 CASH as a down payment. I don't want one that's been involved in any accidents with milage around 75,000. I will be keeping the truck for at least 4 years.
