I find it funny that any high school kid with a wrench can go to a wrecking yard pick up an LS Chevy clean it up call Edelbrock for a carb conversion and a MSD crank trigger and be putting out 500hp in a weekend. Hell I have short bed Chevy with a gen1 roller and a set of Vortec heads that puts out 400 that I let anyone use if they need it. As for the 4x4 unit those aren't worth spit unless your just using it on a smooth gravel road. Don't get me started on what junk those Raptors are and how they suck morons in. I subscribe to the idea there is no 1 perfect car so you need 15. I did just get a deal on an FJ Cruiser last week (my first Toy) guess Scotty got into my brain. We will see how it works out. Not as fast as my early Bronco (my only Ford and more or less retired) but it sure rides better. I had to rip out all the suspension and steering on that Ford because the design is so dangerous and unpredictable. Built not bought is the only way to beat the car industry.

We had a customer come in with his Raptor for a hard ride and a rattle in the front end. The truck was still under basic warranty so I wrote it up as a warranty concern. When the tech checked it out, he found one of the front shocks collapsed and the truck was beat up underneath, obviously it had been jumped. At that time Ford was asking us to call the tech hotline for suspension concerns before doing repairs. We figured since the truck had clearly been jumped/off-roaded/abused that the repair would not be covered and the estimate for repair was about $1000.00 To our surprise, Ford said to do the repair under warranty because that's what they built the truck to do. Of course, they wanted the old part back for parts analysis. I was impressed. And it was the only Raptor I've seen since then that had a blown shock.

I got a 2012 Rap SCab. I absolutely love this truck, my 2012 has literally the same mileage on the clock as this one Scotty is talking up. If you buy a Raptor be aware, the suspension is not cheap, Fox recommends their shocks be rebuilt at 50k miles. Just to give you an idea, I sent a pair of front shocks only to Fox and it was $500 plus shipping them to Cali. Fox has top notch customer service BTW. Always ask when the shocks were rebuilt if ever, and check the skid plates. jumpers gash up the skids on the Raps I've been around. The 6.2L is a beaut.
@chrishernandez2490
@chrishernandez2490 4 жыл бұрын
50k miles... but the question is what KIND of miles? 50k of off-roading miles? I kinda doubt they would need to be rebuilt with 50k highway miles. 🤔

Agreed on the shocks. The Fox shocks are great performers but both of my used Gen 1 raptors had bad shocks at purchase. Recently did the exchange program with forged off-road and the rebuilt shocks didn’t even last 1k miles. I decided to go with new gen 2 shocks and couldn’t be happier. Gen 1 shocks just don’t hold up and you’re lucky to get 50k out of them. Still couldn’t be happier with the Raptor and could care less about cost of ownership.

I owned a 2013 SVT Raptor Super Cab, and had 3 issues. The fuse pump issue which is a $30 dollar fix and 25 mins of your time. The second was replacing the ball joints and shocks. The first owner did a lot of off-roading so those needed to be replaced at 45k miles. After those were replaced, it was back to normal. The third and largest issue was the torque converter went out and I had to have the transmission rebuilt. That was $3600. This thing was a beast and I’m looking at getting another one but this time one that wasn’t beat on.

I own a Gen 1 and really it depends on how you take care of your toys. The "endless money pit" for me is the mods such as lighting, suspension, wheels, overland/ bugout builds, or if you're willing to spend a little, put in a Whipple supercharger. But I'll tell you what, you may have a 10 year old truck compared to everyone else, but you won't care because every time you turn the key the smile on your face will speak speak for itself.

Two main things to look out for. Broken valve springs and plugged cats. Mostly at really high miles... I'm at over 160k on mine and have seen the 6.2 in the super duties go over 300k miles. I like the 2010 truck so much that I'm doing a forged reciprocating motor, built up transmission, rebuilt T-case and newer front differential with the trutrac.

There's a reason why Ford has sold the most full size pick ups for 43 years and the Raptir is one good reason why. An off road vehicle that was specifically designed for off roading. Yeah the V8's were the best ones, but unless you are off roading a lot on your property on the weekends, the Raptor isn't really a city driving vehicle.

I don't always agree with you about some things but I have to admit that you call them as you sees them and I respect that. Now for a couple of questions I can't seem to get a straight answers to: 1) Should I go ahead and have a dealership or professional shop change the transmission and differential oil/fluid in the 2005 Chevy Z71, 4X4 Colorado ( w/auto transmission) and five cylinder engine? I purchased the truck as a "beater" late last year but I want to be able to depend on it for as long as possible. I had the engine oil changed within days of buying it but with almost 240,000 miles on it (and I know it was used as tow vehicle though I don't WHAT it was used to tow or for how long/often/or how much the towed weight was. The truck is in excellent condition (no rust and never wrecked) but I've heard and read of problems that resulted when owners of used vehicles, especially vehicles with high millage that were used as tow vehicles when transmissions were serviced. My wife and I are on a fixed retirement income and purchasing a new or rebuilt transmission and/or differential is kind of out of our price range. I like this truck for what I purchased for and do not plan on ever using it as tow vehicle barring some unexpected emergency. I hope you see this question and are willing to give me your professional opinion. Thanks for providing the excellent videos that you do here on You Tube!

The V8 was only available during the first few years. The V8 and V6 were never offered together. They now use an updated version of the Ecoboost 3.5L V6. It does not get better fuel economy than the V8. In theory it could. But because of it's weight the Raptor is always getting into boost because the Turbos are very small and spool very quickly. They never offered a N/A V6 in the Raptor either. It has always been the 3.5 ecoboost from 2017 to now, everything before 2017 was either a 5.4 V8 or 6.2 V8.

The Raptor is my dream car. You mentioned the turbos on the newer Raptors, I actually don't think Ford offers their new generation Raptor without the turbo. And I don't think there's been much improvement in luxury or off-road technology over the past 5 years. So as long as it hasn't been beat to hell, buying a used one is probably the better option.

I always wondered if the off road capabilities were really worth it. Pickup trucks in general are great for dirt roads, as long as the roads aren't so bad I can see a regular F-150 working pretty fine
@No_nonsense302
@No_nonsense302 4 жыл бұрын
For normal off road stuff, a regular F150 would be fine. The raptor does have a high end suspension for sure! Just the shocks on the new one would cost over 6k to go try and buy a set.
@JacesOwnWorld

@@No_nonsense302 so go buy a regular F150, spend $6k on better shocks than what the Raptor comes with, and you have a Raptor for half the price
@jibrilthegreat35
@jibrilthegreat35 11 ай бұрын
@@JacesOwnWorld its not that easy of cheap. The Raptor has a long travel suspension, a regular truck has about 6 inches of travel the Raptor has 13-14 inches. Besides the Raptor has an electronic locker in the rear and a torsen limited slip up front, the first gen Raptor has a 6.2l that makes more hp and torque than a regular truck. Adding just shocks to a truck doesnt make it as good as a raptor, you would need to replace the front suspension with long travel components which require widers lower and upper arms and longer axles and also widen the rear and replace the rear leafs with deavers. Trust me, by the time you did that, you will have spent tons of money. Just get a raptor instead. Lol

That Raptor gets 1 MPG less than my 2010 150 STX 4X4, BFG KOs I have a 2 1/2 inch level kit, Ruff country with one inch black for the rear... zero problems with my 150 that’s ten years old. That said man the performance you get with this Raptor wins! Besides the price. Mines paid off soooo it’s reliable and I use it as a truck when I want. Yup keeping my 150 fo life. Btw I use a Ford Focus 2012 manual hatch titanium, 170K only changed rotors, battery. I bought the focus 140k miles ago.

@Lassi Kinnunen The 6.2 in the 2012 super duty has 385 h.p. It looks like the same engine in Scottys video, it is just tuned different, so less h.p., probably could be upgraded to match h.p. in Raptor, but like Scotty said, who wants that bad a gas mileage. My truck also has the 6 speed transmission, and is set up for hauling. This truck gets as good a gas mileage as my 2000 super duty got with a 5.4 triton V8 with only about 265 h.p. The 6.2 is an engine that compares to the V10 that was an option in older superdutys, but they were gas hogs.
