Solid advice. Back in December I set out to order a 22 BRZ. Local dealers were all heavy on markup and/or dealer add ons. I expanded my search to neighboring states and found a dealer 65 miles away that had a VERY responsive internet team. They assured me there would be zero markup & add ons and set up a date for me to come in to order the car and have them check out my trade in. I went in, ordered the car and we even agreed on a trade value for my car (which I would continue to drive) 3 months in advance of my BRZ arriving. I was nervous the whole thing would fall apart (despite having placed a deposit and signed a purchase agreement) but exactly 90 days from placing my order- the BRZ came in and the deal went as smoothly as possible. Everything was honored and I had the exact car I wanted. It's a hard time to buy a car right now but it's certainly not impossible.

I used to work for Hyundai and agree with you guys 💯%, except the advise to not take the extended warranty. Understanding the complexity and cost to replace the performance parts on my Veloster N, I opted for a $3,100 10yr 100k bumper to bumper extended warranty. I did pay it cash in order to save the finance charges. The warranty is nationwide with no deductible and covers OEM parts and labor. Las month I hit a huge bump that broke my the entire front right suspension and got all my money back, plus a free car rental for 10 days while my VN was getting fixed. Unless you're buying a base Camry, get an extended warranty, especially on a high performance vehicle you are planning on using daily and carving canyons on weekends

Doesn't that car come with a 5 year/60k mile bumper to bumper and 10 year/ 100k powertrain warranty already? That means you're paying over $3k for an additional 5 year/40k mile bumper to bumper?
@Sie84yv2 жыл бұрын
@@ItsPaulby Exactly. The extended warranty also covered what Hyundai said was an "accident" and did not want to cover the front suspension because they said the damage was from the impact of something on the road and not normal use. I thought this was a stupid reason since I was just driving like normal on a paved road ,but whatever, the extended warranty covered it and i was glad I had it.

Because in the past decade or so this type of communication letter put the dealer administration on not so good position with the manufactured. This letters do work and it is an alternative for potential clients who wants to save his money. On the other hand those ridiculous mark up over the MSRP are cause of we the consumers could not purchase any sport car like the Ford Focus and some others models. It is but it isn't. The issue here is that the chips that the OE's need (and aren't able to get) are the ones on a SUPER old architecture, like 15 Nm. Chip foundries just don't want to retool to make a two decade old chip that makes no money, when they can make PC/phone chips (4-8 nm) that are far more profitable. Intel literally said they would make all the chips the OE's want but they have to get on a semi-modern architecture. TLDR, the OE's are just being cheap, the chips are there but they have to get on a chip architecture that isn't multiple decades old...

@@theodoregibbons4615 I guarantee you the salesmen do not appreciate not having cars to sell, they only get paid on delivery, and having to tell customers that their car will only be there in X amount of months makes them lose what might otherwise be a sale. Whose time did they waste? People sitting at desks whose entire job is to make these sales and have these communications?

They make great cars, but their dealers are worthless I really don't want a Tesla or Camry hybrid, or VW SUV...😐

ANother tip: DO Not finance your state tax and licensing if you have a choice, or any more than you have too. Some states the dealerships try collect it commonly to raise your loan amount, though the state leaves it optional. Be clear on your states guidelines before hand. I live in Omaha, Bought an 18 Elantra Sport in DesMoines Iowa 2020, and the dealership tried to tell me that they needed to collect tax right then, I said no you dont, I dont live in Iowa. After insisting he was wrong he finally "ask someone else". Afterward called one of the Council Bluffs Dealers who sell to Omahans regularly and they said that's BS. Finance officer mentions what they claimed was a theft tracker that they swore was on all their cars, didnt mention a charge for it, made it sound free as I signed a simple acknowledgement . This is a common scam, real or not, COMPLETE BS. WALK AWAY if the finance officer refuses to delete this BULL SHLIT. In my case he told me about it, never mentioned a charge, and then snuck a 900$ fee for it onto the bottom portion of the final price contract beneath empty lines of scrolling periods of NA equipment I didnt even notice until I drove the car home and opened the envelope with the contract copy in it a day later. Had some other trouble with my paperwork getting sent to me at the time. After 4 weeks of not getting a call back from the sales manager I demanded the operator to talk to the GM. I was a bit hot about everything, but he nicely refunded my 900 as well as promised to have my shit in the mail the next day.

Solidarity! These stealerships are out of line. The car-scalping Honda dealership tried to sell me a Civic SI for 35k! They told me it was an "exclusive " car. I told them they needed an "exclusive" buyer, then. I looked around and got an Elantra N for MSRP, just under the 35k Honda tried to sell the Civic SI for. Hah! It works out if we don't go for the BS. These people are banking on buyers having no sense or self-control. I took my time and ended up with a car that was better than I hoped for (Civic SI or Golf GTI). The idea of ordering a new vehicle sounds like a good way to go, too. That just takes planning and self-control - no falling in love with a car and jumping at it.

Some say never pay more than MSRP. If you shop out of state, then you should consider each state's doc fee and etc. Used car market is absolutely crazy. More and more dealers will mark up over new cars to prevent buyers from selling it for profits. Though 5-7k mark up on that car is common, you did pretty good job if you could walk out with the car for less than 2k mark up imo. You could factory order for MSRP but I happen to see a lot of dealers sell those reserved orders to other buyers who would pay more. Yes, it sucks to pay more than MSRP but a couple thousands is not so much if you really want the car right away.
