setting up the skunk2 pro2 camshaft via cam degree with the suggested
98 lobe center intake and 106 lobe center exhaust, we show and why it is suggested by skunk2 themselves
We hope this gives a bit of light on cam degreeing and it is the same for any other cam manufacturers from Crower to Webcam racing cams

This means that we assume that Skunk2 has a symmetrical camshaft lobe design meaning lobe center (LC) is between Open and Close. Is it problematic if we don't have the recommended duration or Open/Close degrees? is it problematic if we don't have the recommended safe practice of 3 degrees difference between EX and IN?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
Well regardless of that… the lobe center is almost where max lift is… and we do the math based on “opening and closing” because some cams tend to have peak lift maintained a degree or two… symmetrical and asymmetrical… the opening (from closed) to @0.050” lift or 0.040” lift does not change But yes anything from 0.100 to max lift on the opening and closing is different on the skunk2 cams and that’s where “plotting” becomes helpful but that would be a 45min video too boring 😂🤣

Just wondering, why bother degreeing your cams if the suggested cam card centerlines isn't the right settings for your application? Why not just do cam inspection for V2V and P2V clearance and play with cam settings at the dyno?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
That’s what everyone local to me thinks and sees it however that is doable yes… is it proper? No…. Because the suggested cam centerline is what the cam was designed “properly” for if on the dyno ur intake cam wanted + or - the suggested centerline? that’s power? Yes But the story doesn’t end there… “why” it made better numbers when advanced or retard = says what lacks or what is too much on the engine intake or exhaust or compression or both… I don’t share the exact details as I expect a proper builder already knows this but I’d bet u that you can ask “alot” of “wannabe” and they won’t know “why” it made power with + or - except “the engine liked it” Well why did the engine like it lol
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
That differenciates “engine building” and “developments” vs “engine assemblers” we both can agree there’s too many self proclaimed peeps out there but ask them to explain they’d tell u it’s complicated? Hahaha but hey they obligated to add “development” or “engineering” to their brand name 😅
@seran2316

@@SRDmotorsports oooo i see!, that's a great way to put it. So it's more of a way to finding the "Weak link" to your setup if you haven't satisfied the cam card's specifications or in other words incorrect engine combination.
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын

cam degree eh no short cut to get the lobe centers desired :) but the main benefit i hinted on the video... the ideal lobe centers are where the cams work at best and on the dyno if u make more power on diff settings? +1 or -1 degree? id know whats missing or needed to improve so 99.99% of the time "next" dyno is always always more power :) some kase think degreeing is the end all be all and thats it. while it is somewhat true it is also like a "compass" that lets u know with the dyno on where its headed :)

@@SRDmotorsports i myself also thought that cam degreeing is the end of the dialling process. I even misjudge that adjustements made on the intake must be equal or lesser on the exhaust..🤣🤣🤣
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports 2 жыл бұрын
@@benjieco630 no actually its just the inevitable thing on Pro series cams as the exhaust is bigger by design and it works. But example crower? they are okay to be set to "zero" "zero" and still be "okay" but ofcourse as noticed, valve to valvr checking, clay testing and especially degreeing will let you see the better window of safety. Cam degreeing is somehow end all be all but on a different perspective, the suggested specs are correct meaning if the dyno shows u different and u need to advance or retard the intake? it means "changes" on the engine is needed for the cam to enjoy its proper position so changes + redyno will almost always insure more power and 99.9% once u get the complimentary parts to let the cam be at best on its "suggested" position is MORE power
