Your explanation of your planning for your paintings is unmatched by any other artist. From what to add or leave out to final details, I have learned so much I can apply to my own paintings. Like living in your mind for an hour or so!

Amazing painting. Your contrast values are spectacular. I took a photo of the screen on my mobile phone with manual focus set to be blurry, and your painting looks like a photo. Beautiful work and the values and tone really capture a realness and vibrancy which convinces the mind.

Yep , i guess you could describe it as medieval since the village was first mentioned in 1076 dc, and today it retains its medieval structure. Beautiful village indeed. Also you are correct about the fortress , it was build in the XII century ... BTW , amazing painting. great job

Terrific stuff as usual. Many watercolour tutors advise leaving out the 'uglier' bits of modern life, wires/pylons etc but you seem to be able to add in their authenticity without marring the painting. Not easy to achieve.

Hello Tim...i think for me it's quite difficult to go in Pisa for a Master Class. I already studied... Arrivals are very strict..so i have to pay taxi return : returning 360 euro...+ 1750 livres sterling etc....too expensive.. just a question.. do you come in France for a Master Class. it will be easier for me to drive in France, instead to go by plane..in PISA...

Hello, I think you are very very good and I would like to be able to paint like you. I made school of art many years ago,( 1990) but we have learned a lot of drawing but few painting.Then I stop with art 'cause I start to study for become a nurse. Now I'm trying to learn watercolor with your tutorial while I'm not working for make chemoterapy. But it's not easy. Apologize my english, I come from Italy and I want to ask you if you have never look for "Borghi medioevali in Italia". There are many beautiful places that would become beautiful painting with your ability. Most of these are at Liguria on the sea and in the interland, or at Toscana like the subject of your paint, at Umbria and olso in other regions. I want to ask you why don't you paint Lucca square,( the best in my opinion ) or Arezzo and Siena square. There is olso a beautiful place called San Gimignano ( Toscana ) and Poltofino and Porto Venere at Liguria. You can find it with google earth but I think you have to come to see with your eyes!! Finally I want to advise about our Lakes on Nord of Italy, where I live, but maybe you already know all these place, in this case excuse me for all this message. I wish I could see our landscape painted by you, even if I love yours too. Then Congratulation on your talent! Chiara

Thank you for your long comment and great suggestions for painting subjects. There are many fantastic locations in Italy. I run a weeks painting holiday at the Watermill in Posara in Tuscany in October. I have done a few more videos of locations near here and on the Cinque Terre. I have not been to Lucca, but may go this year!

Does it make a big difference to buy expensive brushes, like your Raphaels? Can't really afford them. Love your work the most.
@TimWilmot7 жыл бұрын
The Raphaels are not expensive compared to mop brushes with natural hair. They are 20-30 EUR which I think is reasonable and because they are synthetic hairs, they last longer and retain their point

Tim, please can you tell me why so many watercolorists pronounce foliage (FOL-EE-IJ) as folage (FOL-IJ), dropping the EE syllable in the middle? At first I thought it was a southern American dialect, but it sounds like you pronounce it this way too. Where did this originate? Everyone else I know from the UK pronounces it (FOL-EE-IJ).
@TimWilmot6 жыл бұрын
I am not sure about that. I think It pronounce it correctly for the location I live. Thanks for your interesting comment

I wish I could understand why you don't use tube paints and you don't have to keep scraping and trying to get color out of those tiny holes. It seems like British watercolorists end up with a lighter painting because they cannot get enough paint that way. If you lived in my village I would make you a friend and give you a John Pike box and some tubes of paint. Sorry you don't live in Italy.
